Blitzing

Post by bbdave522 »

An interesting question came up recently (on the cyanide forum actually). If you take a Blitz action, do you have to throw a block? This is basically only important with Wild animal.

I would say NO, as you don't have to actually throw the ball, when making a Pass-Action.

LRB5 says on page 7:
Blitz: The player may move a number of squares equal to their MA. He may make one block during the move. The block may be made at any point during the move, and 'costs' one square of movement.
So you really do not have to block. Indeed you do not even have to move, to trigger WA on a 2+ you just have to announce that you are using your Blitz for this player.

Only time you do, as far as I'm aware is when dump off has been triggered-too messy otherwise.

well, dump-off is triggered by a coach decision (when the conditions are right), so it would make little sense to back out of it a bit later, especially since the only circumstances that could lead you to change your mind are the use of pass block, which specifically states that the passer is not allowed to change his mind about throwing the ball (though latest rules disallow the use of pass block on a dump-off)

No you don't have to throw a block in your blitz action. This is handy for moving players with wild animal who could only move on a 4+ normally.
