Is a bouncing ball a catch?

Post by sdague »

Just a minor clarification, but I'm trying to figure out if a bouncing ball is a catch roll, or something different. The rulebook (LRB5+) seems to indicate that it is a catch on page 13.

The reason for the clarification is to figure out if skills such as Nerves of Steel and Catch work on bouncing balls, which would definitely add a new twist to using my elf catchers.

if you choose to move onto the ball it is a pick up roll

if the ball moves onto your player (in any way) it is a catch roll

so you can use catch and NOS

and if you are moved onto the ball by another player (even if you chose to be pushed there), then it is a scatter and not a pickup or a catch

Yes, the Elf Catchers are simply outstanding at catching bouncing balls.

I ran an Elf side a couple of years ago, developing the Catchers as Blitzers (Dodge, Wrestle, Tackle etc.). This worked like a dream, one of the reasons being the ability of the Catchers to sack the opposing ball carrier AND catch the resultant bouncing ball.
