I were the one that played the skaven team. Played a Chaos dorf team to reach the semifinals and got 2 players killed and MNG on my thrower and ratogre. So had a big roster but just got a tough match before the semifinals, were I "lost" 4 players.Darkson wrote:Then perhaps the coach should have been building for a bigger roster, rather than going for the minimal TV. I've no sympathy for people that run 11-man rosters, to maximise their inducement possibility, who then "cry" because they can't take Stars/Mercs in the play-offs.Smeborg wrote:I would get little pleasure from beating an 11 player roster in a semi-final or final just because my opponent was barred from hiring Stars or Mercs.
Now of course, there's the case where a coach has lost a few players in the game before/the semi, but them's the breaks. I won a semi in our last LRB4 league, but lost 4 of my 6 skilled skinks for the final - shit happens.

Definately agree with Smeborg in this. I would much rather win a final due to good playing rather than the opponent met the wrong guy in the game before.
In our league the underworld team heavily relies on star players and I feel, banning them really hurt them more than most other teams (not discussing gobbos and other fun teams). Furthermore people are able to carry over teams from season to season, therefore there are big differences in TV, so new team would never stand a chance either.

Re: Starplayers and mercs for semi-finals and finals..
I'm with Dines and Smeborg.
I'd rather fight to win a close game than breeze through a stacked game. And I don't really care if my opponents has had help to his line-up. Feels pretty much the same as playing an opponent that didn't have a ton of random MNGs on key players.
Finally, I can't really see that this is a great thing to stop people from "abusing" the rules with 11 player rosters.
It's only abusing if it works too well.
Can't say that 11 player rosters are particularly powerful/broken in my experience.
But - to the OP - do is you prefer.
You've definately seen both sides of the case here
