Catching the Bomb

Post by dode74 »

So, the Bombardier targets a square which is occupied by an opposition player. There are no other players around who could intercept. The rules say that a player can "catch or intercept" the ball. These are the possible rolls in the order they should happen:
1. Interception roll.
2. Pass roll.
3. Catch roll.

Can the targetted player intercept the ball? If not then the roll sequence is simple - 2 and 3.
If he can, then does he also get to roll to catch (since he is in the targetted square)? This would allow all 3 rolls to happen.
Or does choosing to intercept effectively decline the chance to catch? Thereby meaning only rolls 1 and 2 happen.

I can see the benefit of going for the intercept - it may increase your chances of catching what may well be an otherwise inaccurate pass (which would mean you don't get to catch). But if all 3 rolls are available then that really increases the chances of making the catch.

Which is it? :-?

to intercept, your player needs to be between the thrower and targered square. so in your example, no the guy in the square could not get to intercept.

he can try catch it, and should receive the +1 for catching an accurate pass (and if he has diving catch he'll get another +1)(both of those are assuming it was accurate and didnt scatter to that square).

and of course after he's caught the bomb, he can throw it back.

As lunchmoney posted ... the target of a pass cannot try to intercept it.

Thanks gents. Thought that might be the case, but I've had a report of LE doing it the other way (i.e. intercept, pass then catch), so I thought I'd check.

as an extention, and slight hijack, from the original question.

in a highly risky play, can you target a bomb to one of your own players, in the aim that he has to try to catch it, and can then pass the bomb on? like i say risky, but if your bomma is not close enouth to the opposition cage and its a case of stop the cage or they score......... can it be done?

(i'm just loving the image of gobbos "hot potato-ing" the fising bomb down the pitch :))

Bombardier skill says it uses the normal passing/throwing rules, so if you can pass a ball to a team mate there is no reason you can't pass a bomb.

Though when I was reading through it I did notice that the bomb treats prone stunned players as standing for the point of being counted as knocked down. So if a bomb blast hits one of your own prone or stunned players it counts as a turnover. A little bit harsh in my opinion.

I love this idea. I will have to incorporate it into my game plan.

I may sign a bomber just to try the 'Ot puh-tay-to' play.

With the obscene luck I'm having at the moment(with my LE Kikas, not TT sadly) it just might work.
