Block or wrestle on a Dwarf runner?
Hi Guys,
A quick question. I have recently got a 2nd skill for one of my Dwarf runners and I want to know what would people go for wrestle or block?
I have 2 runners and both rolled doubles on the 1st roll and I gave them both dodge. I got a 2nd roll for one of them and I gave him Block (blodging runner very good for offence) but here is the rub. I got the other runner another roll and I am wondering what to do. I want him to be defensive so I thought wrestle bringing down ball carriers but Blodge on both runners sounds awesome.
What would you guys do??
Cheers
Ade

Block, you don't want your ball carrier having to lay down and thus drop the ball. Especially with a team that's so bad at recovering the ball.

Re: Block or wrestle on a Dwarf runner?
For a Dwarf team Wrestle is not the key to taking the ball from the opponent (nor is Strip Ball).
Turning over your opponent, for Dwarves, is done by positioning, and thus forcing your opponent to put himself in progressively worse situations, requiring more and more rolls, and eventually just crumbling.
Skills to do this with are not on your runner, he's just there to pick up the ball. The rest of the team will have handy skills like Guard, Stand Firm and Grab, and that will make you opponent drop the ball, or give you free blocks on the ball carrier.

Normally I would say wrestle, but Dwarfs are the exception.
You have a blodger so why make a second one? Now it is time to use those passing skills.
For those of you who do not think that dwarfs have a passing game must not play in very competitive leagues.
Granted it is not your bread and butter but there are some tricks>>
Leader (Cheap RR saves you 30 in TV), Nerves of steel (Dwarfs are always in tight spots, and it works well in a bouncing scrum), Dump Off (those short little stubby legs sometimes needs some help), or you can go with pass or accurate for obvious reasons.
But to make him a lightly armored Blitzer is a rookie mistake. He plays his role (why do you think they have P as a skill choice) and let the Blitzer play his own.

Re: Block or wrestle on a Dwarf runner?
Giving passing skills to runners is a huge waste of spp’s as they have other skills to take that will be far more useful. I’d never take NoS on a runner (and struggle to think of any player it is really worth taking on) as I doubt it will be used much at all, Dump off is equally useless. Dwarfs won’t be passing unless things are going very badly for them as you don’t have many viable options to receive. If you really must throw the ball then accurate is an option since dwarfs usually have plenty of re-rolls.
Blodge on both runners is awesome and block is far better than wrestle on your main ball carriers. After that skills like, kick or kick off return are good, leader to save TV or fend is nice as well and you can look at making him a safety on defence with tackle and strip ball too.

Re: Block or wrestle on a Dwarf runner?
Cheers guys,
I have gone with Block. I will now specialise one of them to be more defensive with tackle (Diving Tackle on doubles), strip ball and the other a out and out offensive player.
Thanks again

You did well. Block is the way to go on runners. Don't forget they are only AV8, so even if he's defensive, you will eventualy have to use him as your main ballcarrier, and Blodge/fend is gold in those situations
For your offensive runner, kick off return is really useful too remember that when he skills up
