Raising Stars

Post by Hitonagashi »

This question came up on FUMBBL, and I thought it was interesting enough to pose here.

A Necro team kills a star, can they raise them?

My interpretation would be no:
The Rules wrote:Finally, purchased/induced apothecaries or an Igor may not be used on Star Players ever. Star Players employ their own personal trainers and apothecaries who travel with them to heal them from almost any injury (including death) and to get in shape for their next match and will not use the team's amateur physicians.
That implies to me that the death is healed, and therefore the star player cannot be zombified or rotted.

That said, it's not crystal clear...

My league's house rule is that the Star Player dies, so the Undead/Necro team get the zombie. But after the match the Star's personal physicians kidnap him and raise him back to gory glory. So the Undead/Necro's dont have a zombie added to their roster.

TOs! You do not need multiple copies of rosters. It's a waste of paper.

I think a literal reading of the rules is that reality splits into a universe where there is both a zombie star and a live star. As soon as Nuffle realises the world ends and no one ever plays BB again. :D

Rulebook page 17 wrote:If a player on the opposing team with Strength 4 or less that does not have Regeneration or Stunty is killed during the match (after Apothecary attempts if any) then the team may immediately place a new Zombie...
Read together with Hito's reference to star players it's quite clear that no player "is killed". The special rules for star players clearly overrides the general rules for the casualty table. So no zombies or rotters. Not too sure about parallel universes.

If the rule above made reference to say, rolling 61-68 on the Casualty Table, then it'd be less clear.
