Illegal Setup!

Post by flash »

Hi,

Shortly we had an illegal setup in one of our league games (4 Players in one wide Zone 8) ). And that makes one player win the game 4-3, while both only noticed it after reporting the game result.

So my question is: what says the rules about a penalty for a such illegal setup? I didnt find anything in Rulebooks. Only that it is just not allowed to set up more than 2 player for each wide zone.

The players want to change the score to 3-3, and I dont support it. But that is another problem. I just want to clarify the rule of illegal setups.

Responsibility of both coaches to check in my opinion - if neither coach noticed, hard cheese.

However, I would say if one player makes a habit of "accidently" setting up incorrectly, in the hope the opponent doesn't notice, then a word (and then further sanctions if necessary) is in order.

But if in this case you're happy it was just an oversight, then let it go.

That is exactly the problem. Both coaches didnt noticed it while they were "fighting". Only after they reported the game they talked about it again and remember surely there has to be an illegal set up there on the last turns.

And no, there ist no noticeable accumulation of illegals setups

There is no official answer. You can't set up illegally, any more than you can't roll 3 dice for armour.

After the match (or even the drive) is over I'd just laugh it off.

It’s one of those tricky rule situations and can be a particular issue if your league has a lot of less experienced players.

There are a lot of rules to keep track of and it can be made doubly complicated if some players have dabbled over the years so can get mixed up with older versions of the rules.

I have heard some players claim you are allowed to cheat in Bloodbowl and will try to sneak extra players on the pitch, distract their opponents so they go over 4 mins, move extra squares etc. But this in my opinion will kill the league really quickly as it seriously penalises new players and makes the game less fun.

Were I commissioner I’d probably let the result stand if it was a genuine mistake, but the draw idea is another good solution since the winner didn’t gain anything by getting the rules wrong in his favour.

Tough... play on, if it has been played.

Due to distraction I have set up 12 players. I noticed it and suggest to my opponent a random piece is removed and I allow a Team Reroll to be granted to the them. The coach agreed, as he did not spot it he welcomed the honesty.

Good game convention, play fair so to speak.

As for the 4 in the wides set up, grass hasn't been cut and the ref was not sure where the players were standing.

On Cyanide game, a bug makes that a common occurrence.

If they can be really certain that this caused the winning score (most likely it helped with setting up a good sideline cage), then why not accept the draw if they both would be happy with it.

The fact that both coaches would be happy with it being 3-3 means i'd use that. An odd moment in BB history where a team owns up to cheating after the fact and volunteers for punishment. :)

If both coaches are in genuine agreement, then make it 3-3. Basically, the coaches resolved their own errors.

If one coach is bitching and complaining after the fact and the other coach is agreeing just so the first coach will shut up, then the commissioner should step in and tell the whiny coach to pay more attention next time and rule the 4-3 score stands.

It is a good win, if the players had no idea what is going on.
The score should stand as an example to other players that you both should add the players on the pitch and check for legal formation.

I have played games where I am shuffling around player and end up with 3 wide and my opponent pointed it out. (Of course the mark from the die was a little excessive)
