I don't have a problem believing some git would try to pull this stunt. The rulesbendy sheepdip that I've seen rampant through other GW games? Nah, this is smallpotatoes by comparison.

The honest error would be someone who plainly just never actually read the basic rules of the rulebook. Take the mental shortcut of "standing up is 3 movement" and try to apply that at any point in the turn. You logically get "wrestle down, get back up, keep moving".

The dishonest error, not so much an error as just a weaksauce attempt at cheating, is to assume your OPPONENT has this shortcut misunderstanding of the rules.

Most gamers mentally abridge the actual game rules to make them playable for everyday use. Most of the "cheat" attempts I've seen take advantage of this fact. The players making honest mistakes are usually quick to take correction, or just need something pointed out in the rulebook so they can "rewrite their abridgement". I make mistakes and need to be corrected like anyone else, but often I require being smacked with paragraph-and-line from the rulebook. The players making dishonest mistakes take that a step further and just refuse to adapt to reality. They want the game played THEIR way because it is to their advantage to abridge the rules in their peculiar manner.

I wouldn't say he was cheating but he was a forceful character who'd done this against his previous 2 opponents and they'd said zipp. Maybe he was honestly mistaken

Maybe he was. But you educated him on the rules.

An honest player will take this correction, and next game against someone else play the rule right.

A dishonest player will never willingly play in your presence again and will revert to his "abridgement".

Weirdly enough, thsi was actually something I had to check in one of our games last night - I had never read the 'at the start of his turn' part, assuming just three squares cost, and thought post match to check.

Subsequently, I have corrected the player with that not-quite-so-useful Norse Bezerker anymore, and know myself. Still, goes to show its really easy to miss this one.

No, he wouldn't accept that. We had to call the Touch Judge in to mediate :o

I added that to the rulebook for LRB 5.0 to deal with the questions on Wrestle and Piling On.

Sounds like a cheater then, and one that will need watching ongoing.
