Losing your tackle zone but assisting in a block?

I was under the (probably mistaken) impression that if a player lost their tackle zones (eg failing bonehead) that they would not be able to assist in a block.
It appears that this is not the case however. In the long run this is better for me, i like my trolls and ogres, but it doesn't seem to sit right.
It seems to me that if my big guy fails his bonehead/really stupid (etc) roll and stands around "trying to remember what it is they’re meant to be doing" (LRB p26) he's in no condition to be of any help to the rest of my team. He shouldn't be allowed to offer an assist, as he's staring blankly into space, and he shouldn't be allowed to catch the ball, as he's staring blankly into space wondering why someone would hit him with an inflated pigs stomach, maybe he can eat it.... All he's good for, for that turn, is taking up space on the pitch.
