Maybe my problem sounds funny to you but I was wondering about scattering a not accurate pass and i didn't find anything about this subject in the forum.
The ball scatters 3 times to determin the direction the pass is actually thrown to and the square the ball ends up. So the three times scattering is not actually taking place in the air.
What happens, if the ball on the first or second roll scatters out of bounds? Is it possible, that it scatters back inbounds on the next scatterroll or is the ball regarded as leaving the pitch and thrown back by the audience? Logically this wouldn't make sense to me but it would make sense practically.
Thank you for your help!

Although it would be logically possible for the ball to "return" to the pitch on the 2nd or 3rd scatter roll, i think the game mechanic says the crowd has the ball as soon as the ball is outside at any point during the scatter, because there are no squares outside of the pitch.

yup, the crowd gets it, even though it could get back on the field and technically is not necessarily out of the field...

are you sure? I mean I haven't had time to look anything for or against this up, it just sounds absurd.. ok, I know "are you sure" is a lame question, what I mean is: *why* is this so? in the rules for scatter it says "if the ball scatters off the field" so I guess combined with the wording on inaccurate passes "each scatter roll is made separately" you could rule it this way (and it appears that everyone does). It would just make more sense if you completed the three scatter rolls before deciding if the ball went out of bounds or not. It's not too hard, I mean if it's out of bounds on first scatter roll, then roll second scatter: if this means it's going back on the field, roll third. If it goes further out of bounds, it's out. If it moves up or down, simply move the scatter template up or down accordingly and roll third scatter... sorry if I got a bit carried away there, I just hate these silly rulings which seem to have no sense, and no practical use. The "intercept before fumbling" rules are another example of this..
Given the chance, I will suggest an alternate ruling for my local league, that's for sure!

Yep, that's the official line. IIRC JJ clarified it in an FAQ in a White Dwarf. It's just easier than counting imaginary squares (at least for some!).

Our league plays with the rule that the ball doesn't touchdown till all the scatter's done (which is in the LRB somewhere), so we didn't even concider that other's (including JJ) would think otherwise...
oh well... our way works... so does the official... *shrugs*
