Had this come up in my game recently.
If you have the blocker(A) and the blocked (B) both on the side line with the two squares filled by players does a Pushback result send the blocked into the crowd.
_ _ _ X_ _ _
_A B X____
crowd
I remember something with witch elves and frenzy and the player would slip into a side sqaure when pushed at a angle.
AND what was the ruling on a second player getting pushed back. does that second player follow the pushback rules or doesn't the coach just get to pick an eligable empty square.
Thanks all

Yes, (B) is pushed into the crowd !

Actually, player B can be pushed into the crowd. The blocker chooses, since all 3 pushback squares are occupied.

i thought in a situation like this the sideline was considered an unoccupied square and player "b" was automatically pushed out.

Hi Mikey,
AFAIK - no.
There are only 2 kinds of squares: occupied and unoccupied.
There is no medium thing like ball squares or crowd squares, and you don't calculate a "path of least resistance".
AFAIK.

Players may only be pushed off the field if there are no elegible empty squares on teh pitch

The key in that phrase lies in the word "may". It does not say must. So I would say that you were allowed to push back another player in this case instead of pushing the player in the crowd.

yeah you never HAVE to push into the crowd unless all 3 pushback squares are the crowd...
but it's very rarely the case when you won't WANT to push into the crowd when you can. Maybe with the Claw, RSClaw, PileOn guy who has only 2 SPP's to get his next skill you might choose to lay the the victum on the ground instead of the crowd.

I understand it like this:
you may only push into the crowd (occupied) if all other p-back squares are occupied too. Otherwize you must choose an unoccupied square.
As always, if all squares are occupied, the pushing player chooses.
