Probably already thought of, but here it is anyway:

Name the Living Rules after the Rules Review year. Like now that the RR2002 is coming up, name the new Living Rules 2.0. Minor revisions add a tenth to it. That way, the integer is connected to the year. (RR2001 = LRB 1.x)

Even better and less confusing would be to call it RR2002 instead of Living Rules vx.x like now. Less names = less confusion. Ok, Living Rules is a cool name, but it doesn't associate at all with the BB Rules Review 2001. And what edition is it? 5th? The 4th edition messed the naming up a bit.

Oh, well, rambling again.

Blood Bowl -> Rule Book
'2002' Edition -> Version 2.x

'2003' Edition -> Version 3.x


no "Review" no "Living" no "3rd" no "4th"
just plain the name of the game, the year of its release, and the current rules version...

The "Living" part refers to the online edition, there is a new printed version coming out soon as well.

I have a better idea. One of my friends was studying abroad at an university, where a certain professor didn't number the chapters of what he wrote at the lectures. After the students complained about this, he started using numbers... random numbers.
I think we could adopt the same system: use a random number generator to come up with version numbers:

A quick test run gives (d20.d10):

LRB 1.0 -> LRB 8.3
LRB 1.1 -> LRB 15.7
LRB 1.2 -> LRB 2.0
LRB 1.3 -> LRB 11.4
LRB 2.0 -> LRB 6.8

That should clear things up

Anyway, what I meant was if the printed rulebook that Anthony_TBBF says will come out soon is going to be based on the Rules Review 2002 that is occuring pretty soon?

I believe it's going to occur when BB goes back on the shelves at the end of this month.

Actually that's a good question.

When BB gets released in physical form, are the writers of it (Jervis or whoever) bound by the rules that the BBRC have come up with, or can he/they just wave them away as variants that aren't "official"? Related to this is the question of would they simplify rules created here to make the product more palateable for a broader market rather than the specialist players that tend to be on this site?

Let's face it, more people are going to see the book version than will ever know the online version even exists. And if the book is different from the LRB, then it's going to become the official source more or less by default.

My guess is that we may get additional rules becoming official through the BBMag(possibly clarifications/Q &As?) but I wouldn't expect any changes to the core rules until at least the print run has expired. Rulebooks are expensive to produce!

In actuality, all the different rules changes have been modifications to the printed 3rd ed. The so called 4th ed rules were really version 3.1, RR2001 = v.3.2. If the current LRB is printed and released with the re-released BB games, it then becomes the defacto 4th ed. because it is the fourth published and released rulebook for BB (not just some rules changes printed in a magazine).

OK, so how does the BBRC then effect the rules? I may be missing the point, but don't any rules reviews now made become slightly redundant as they are unable to influence the printed rules, which as pointed out are now the 4th ed. And if the LRB is now set in stone, then any rules now altered become glorified house rules. I'm not picking trouble but I'm having trouble clarifying this to myself.

I don't get it either man. I kinda felt like I got the run around. It seems that JJ and Andy can alter the rules as they see fit. Otherwise the rules are only altered at yearly intervals. I think. I still don't understand why the book is being printed 1 month before the review but whatever. I've lost interest. lol
