handicaps targetting the same player

Hey,

in last game (half final of a Chaos Cup, for which Toby One screamed out for help somewhere here on the boards  ), we had our doubts on something:

if several of you handicaps target the same player, can you reroll the "randomly selected player"-roll? for example:

VIRUS: my best player happens to have a niggling, she misses the match.
ARRESTED: he rolls nr 7, and that happens to be the number of the above mentionned player. So she's in the cell with her virus :D
I AM THE GREATESTas my nr 7 is my best player, she won't be on the pitch together with my second best player, but that won't be a problem since she's in jail anyway.

correct? Or did he have to RR the second to target another player? And/Or didn't my nr 7 count as being my best player since she wasn't available anyway?

we argued the handicaps are treated on the roster, and since she stays there, he just had (very   8) bad luck)

So, she was infecting the rest of the prison whilst maintaining her brilliance to the world.

that is how I would have played it - maybe followed up with a session of WFRP to play out the mad jailer attack to get her to shut up.

You got off easy playing technically instead of what the handicaps are supposed to accomplish. I would have applied them in order.

Virus- #7 is niggled so she's out.
Arrested- rolled 7 but 7 is out sick so she can't be arrested. She's not there. Roll again
I'm the greatest- Would have been #7 but she had the runs so the next best player is strutting around like they're the greatest actually picking on the 3rd best now.

Snew's way is the way I always play it.

damn. Victory doesn't feel right anymore...

is there anything "official" on this? Regardless of how gentlemen play? (it's Dark Elves, you know... )

It's not about roleplaying, the handicap rolls aren't supposed to be a random punishment either. It is a system to prevent automatic wins by the better team. Official answer or not: you roll on the handicap table and resolve the effect, then do the second roll and resolve it etc. when a player is not eligible anymore to be targeted you have to resolve the effect on another player.

yep!

that's the way we play.

so different player had to be arrested....then once arrested the remaining two players are the greatest.

If you would've rolled I'm the greatest FIRST then you could've stacked one of the other handicaps onto him.

i think we typically follow it "by the book". in other words if it says "the player with the most spps" it means that person...even if they're already out with injury or another handicap or whatever...you just got off lucky.

i get the arguments of the other guys regarding that defeating the purpose of the handicap. however, it brings up some grey area. for example, if one has gotten "morley's revenge" and will (probably)miss parts of the game, is he then immune to further handicap effects?

all the same, it's something i may need to re-consider for the local league.

the way I interpret the rules is: if a player can't be given an mvp then he can't be hit by a handicap.

The reason the order matters is:
Roll on the table and apply the result immediately if you can. Then make your next roll, and so on until all rolls have been used up. If you are allowed to pick a result then do this after making all of your rolls.

and the only one that is specific is I'm the greatest, the others are roll randomly, if you can't roll randomly and hit him with an MVP ie: not available to play, then you shouldn't be able to roll randomly to get hit with a handicap.

As for the I'm the greatest, if they aren't there to play the game due to injury, being arrested or virus, then they really can't be one of the players to be argueing.....they aren't THAT great :)

Not true... I can very clearly picture one of my dark elf blitzers laying on a cot in the dugout, saying "I can play this game better on one leg than you could on both, you sorry excuse for an elf!!"

actually that's when the 3rd highest spp player actually has the balls to challenge the 2nd for team authority....saying It's MY TIME TO SHINE!

how do you mean? Aren't all players on the roster able to receive the MVP? In this particular case, my MVP went to an injured player that didn't have any part in the play at all (MNG). I was under the impression that anyone on the roster could get it, even the killed ones and starplayers etc.

as for the handicaps; seems that there's no exact ruling, maybe this should be adjusted in a/the new version?

anyone eligible to play the game at the start can get the MVP, but if they are missing the game (niggled out or from a MNG injury), then they can't get it.

Since a dead player was eligible to play at the start, then he is still eligible for the MVP..

Pulled this straight out of the LRB FAQ

Q: Can a player who died in a match receive an MVP award?
A: Yes! The award is given posthumously (and therefore wasted).
Q: Can a player win the MVP if he sat in the Reserves box for the entire game and never touched the pitch?
A: Yes. (The decision has obviously been made by a corrupt official!) Players missing the game due to injury or a handicap result
cannot receive the MVP award.

Looks like from the rules that if the player was out with a niggling injury he wouldn't have been able to be picked for the other handicaps, least thats the way it looks to me.

Officially that's the way it should be played... my league allows anyone on the roster to earn the MVP, whether they missed the game or not, just in the spirit of simplicity.
