Skill use still mandatory in LRB?

I know PBBL has expressly cleared this up, but for the time being is skill use still mandatory in LRB?

Specifically can I choose not to use Dodge defensively on a block to avoid a subsequent crowd push from an opponent with Frenzy?

The LRB FAQ clarifies that Traits use is not mandatory ... but there is no cut and dried ruling for skills.

Never played that skill use is mandatory, and it could be argued that because it's not mentioned, it isn't.

LRB4 p34 wrote: traits are treated just like skills, and any rules that apply to skills apply to traits also.

but that doesn't necessarily work in reverse strider, which would have to be the case for that sentence to have relevance here.

Where does it say that skill use is mandatory?

LRB4 p 15 wrote: Unless stated otherwise in the skill description you never have to use a skill just because the player’s got it

However the blocking results does not state "use" the skill, but possession thereof. So its a grey area. I prefer the "must" interpretation for blocking since, IMO, its an unrealistic cheesy exploit to fall over when you have a choice to stay upright. However this is pretty marginal since the only cases I can think of would be to avoid a crowd surf or a push-back one turner.

That is what my opponent said too:
Jacobs40K wrote:And in the Blocking Dice description, it makes no mention of the opponent optioning the use of the skill. The possession of the skill, not the use of the skill, changes the Block Dice result. The description say the player MAY use the skill during a dodge result. However, the skill description does not say, it MAY affect the blocking dice result. It states that it DOES.
I can't wait for PBBL conventions to hit the MBBL2, where this is one of the many clarifications:
PBBL 1.11 page 11 wrote:DEFENDER STUMBLES: Unless the defender uses the Dodge skill he is pushed back and then Knocked Down. If he does use the Dodge skill then he is only pushed back. The attacking player may follow up the defender.
IMO it is clear what the spirit of the rule is in both versions.

Well the clarification isn't co-incidential ;)

BTW This is one area I know Galak & I disagree on the LRB interpretation.

i know if someone like a rat ogre was beating the crap out of my id fall over into fetal postion like a scared little goblin. so im thinking that is a reasonable explanation for choosing not to use the dodge skill.

Well, I've been known to let players stay prone so they don't get pushed into the crowd after they get up... :D But other than that, I have never seen someone decline to use Dodge in that situation, and I can't understand why this is even a topic, frankly...

because if you get pushed over instead of going into the crowd, they have to make two rolls instead of one to injure you.

Or perhaps they need you standing after the block for a chain push.
