I must admit i never asked myself that question because it was an evidence for me, but one of my friend wasn t agree, so now i m not sure anymore.

I know to try to intercept the ball you must be between thrower and catcher, so my question is : can a guy next to the thrower try it ? i think no...

......C......

....OT....

C catcher / T thrower / O opponent

can O try an interception ? (btw i think that question could be better in the newbie forum ;) )

thx

In that case I would say no, it's best just to roll a D6 for it if you are in disagreement with your opponent. I tend to let interceptions happen if the interceptor is placed diagonally to the thrower and more or less in between the thrower and catcher. In your example since he's right beside him I would say no.

LRB1.3 says:
To be able to make an interception, the player must be between the player who threw the ball and the player who is meant to receive it.
Since O is not really "between", he will not be able to intercept (unless he can use pass block to move into an interception position, of course). He will, however, enforce a -1 modifier on the throw.

The following diagram would allow O (still next to T) to intercept, since the ruler crosses his base.

When a player is next to the thrower he is under the throw template. We say anyone touching the template can intercept but not sure if thats been changed in the lrb or not.
