2D Block, opponent chooses

Post by Da_Great_MC »

I have a rules question, concerning a 2D Block where your opponent gets to choose the result.

Do you have to decide if you use a reroll on the 2D Block before or after your opponent declares which result he chooses ?

Example: Gutter Runner (ST2, no Block) blitzes on Dark Elf Lineman holding the ball (ST3, no Block). There are no assists involved.

The Skaven coach rolls Pushback + Both Down. The Dark Elf coach thinks about which result he will choose. Pushback means his Lineman stays on his feet and keeps hold of the ball. Both Down results in a turnover for the Skaven Coach.

I can easily see both results being chosen, depending on the exact situation.

And now I repeat my question: can the Skaven coach wait for his opponent to choose a result before he decides to use a re-roll ? Or does he have to decide to use a re-roll before the Dark Elf coach has to choose a result ?

It doesn't come up very often, but still I'd really like to know.

Thx in advance. See some of you in Bologna.

I always thought you had to choose to re-roll or not before your opponent chooses which block dice to take. At work so can't find the relevant part of the rulebook but will take a look later if nobody else beats me to it.

I'm with Azrahn on this one. If you choose to re-roll, the new roll erases the initial roll. The opponent has to base his/her decision on the roll that counts. Like Azrahn I'm at work, so I can't check any passages, but I can't imagine it being otherwise.

I disagree with both. You choose after you know what result the other player chooses. It's the only way you can tell if you want to reroll it or not.

Snew is right

You only can decide to reroll when you know to what it is applying...
So opponent decide with dice is applying.. then you can choose to reroll or not.

Seems I have been playing on fumbbl for too long. In the client you choose to re-roll or not before your opponent chooses the block dice.

Risked a quick scan of the rulebook and I can't find anything stating what happens in this case.

I'd say, in an instance where the opponent doesn't have an immediate ability to choose the die roll the attacker down would always be assumed. In your case where the attacker down would also put the ball carrier down, the push is always to be assumed and play would carry on. I play a lot of PBeM and it's alwasys alright to get a gamefile, play through the turn and, if the opponent doesn't choose what you would have chosen, send the file back and ask him to play it over from there picking the other option.

I admit, though, I know nothing of FUMBBL and how it works.

FUMBBL is realtime so after the blocker has chosen whether to re-roll or not the opponent can pick the dice.

That just makes no sense. Is Fumbbl always that way or can opponents choose to play it in the gentlemanly and correct manner? I've heard almost nothing positive about Fumbbl. Please give me something.

There are a few problems with the client but generally if you're a sportsmanlike type of person they don't cause any problems.

If you're anti-LRB5, it's still LRB4. And apparently will stay that way.

I don't know if that helped...

Has this been officially ruled in LRB5 ?

I will wait for Galak and hear what he has to say about this. At least then I'll be sure ;)

I don't understand the Galak fetish. There's no way you can know if you need to reroll till you know the dice result and you won't know that till your opponent chooses one. What more do you need?

The only thing I can find in the rules says
".. a re-roll allows you to re-roll all the dice that produced any one result."

In this case, I don't think you have a result until your opponent chooses a die so you get to see what your opponent picks before you decide on using a re-roll.
