Pass Blocking a Handoff

Post by falconeyed »

Can Pass Block be used to disrupt a handoff action? Played a match on Saturday where it came up. My opponent said that the pass blocker could move, but I disagreed. It was turn 8 2nd half and it didn't affect the outcome of the match, but it did prevent me from scoring.

Skill description says that skill can be used when opponent announces that he is going to pass a ball or a bomb. Handoff isn't a pass so I say no.

You're absolutely correct. The description of hand-off, many years ago, used to imply (incorrectly) that it was like a very accurate pass, and some leagues used to (incorrectly) allow pass block during a handoff. But the description has been clarified in LRB4 and LRB 5 to make it clear that a handoff is a handoff and nothing to do with a pass. So pass block cannot be used during a handoff.

I concur, your opponent was just being a pain. A hand-off is not a pass.

All actions are listed. Note that both Pass and Hand-Off are seperate actions.

So no pass block on the hand off. Go get your Spp's! :D

Thanks for the clarification everyone. Our decision didn't affect the match at all (I was up 2-0 at that point), but I wanted to make sure that we're using PB correctly in the future. It seemed fairly obvious given the distinction between passing, handing off, and the PB description, but our goof didn't affect the result.

You said it prevented you from scoring so it did have an affect on the game.

But the W was already a foregone conclusion.

It's not about the wins, it's all about the SPP's! ;)

Plus taunting someone "I beat you 3-0" is soooo much better sounding than 2-0. ;)
