When making a or three dice block......

Post by doswelk »

And say you get both down and a push back, before you pick can you ask the opponent if he has block?

We always have played that way, but I was curious how others do and in a tourney how it is done?

:o

I've never played, or even heard of, a game where you had to choose your block result without knowing what skills your opponent's player has. In fact, every opponent I've had (friendly, league or tournament) announces if they have Block/Dodge/Sidestep/Juggernaut or any other pertinent skill when the dice stop rolling. It's just good form to do so, so shame and eternal double-skulls on whoever is trying to pull that trick

all rosters should be freely available to all for pre and in-game viewing, for games in my league I try to ensure that all players have two current copies of their rosters so that they can hand one to their opponent.

Now he/she doesn't have to tell you if they will USE the skill block (or dodge or wrestle etc.)

But I would certainly think they would have to tell you if the model HAS the skill or not.

Please don't tell us you ask because some sod tried to pull this. I'd just rather not know.

As people have said, I always have a discussion with my opponent about skills before even rolling the the dice, just to check I have the situation correct. I have never found an opponent who wouldn't let you know if a figure had a relevant skill and let you rethink if you declared a block in error.

We play here Blood Bowl and not WHFantasy with a ball. :D
So we play with open helmets and not some secret magic item combination with rules no one has ever read.

Except maybe the inducment cards.
But I doubt we will see them at a tourny.

Hell, the majority of people I've played in tournaments, and all my leaguemates at "home" say what skills their players have before the dice are rolled.
"You realise that's the lineman with Block, don't you?"

Currently an ex-Blood Bowl coach, most likely to be found dying to Armoured Skeletons in the frozen ruins of Felstad, or bleeding into the arena sands of Rome or burning rubber for Mars' entertainment.

Most of the coaches I've played with have always been decent enough to point out their players skills before a Block (or set up) or at least have the decency to ask "Is there anything you want to know about my player(s)?"

There was one coach in one of our leagues who consistently kept silent until after dice were rolled. Especially during key moments about Side Step or Guard players on his High Elf team. (I think Malki will know who I'm talking about.)

He pulled it on me several times during our final, which well, fair enough I forgot to ask. But his attitude as well as his previous record with other coaches made me go from my gentlemanly A-game to my down and dirty B-Game and I started swinging hard and kicking players who were down while still aiming for the win.

I'm (a little) proud to say I demolished his team, didn't actually cause any major long term damage, just a several MNGs and a death on a rookie lino. But he couldn't take being so solidly shut out of the game, so he stopped playing in the league. He's a player we don't really miss as he wasn't below picking on newer coaches and savaging them both by not helping them tactically and screwing them on the rules.

Suffice to say, I take a very personal interest in coaches who play in my leagues if I feel they're taking advantage of other people's good nature. :pissed: I don't really want to win because my opponent forgot/didn't know about some key skills/stat increases on a player.

Oh no it was just that during a game we had a discussion, and the question came up that if you played strictly by the rules would you have to....

We have never played that and never will, just one of things and I was curious what others thought?
