Dump Off

Probably an obvious questions, but I'm a little unclear on dump off.

Does it come into play as soon as the opposing player declares a blitz? Or does it come into play as the blitzing player moves into an adjacent square, but before rolling the block dice?

I'm just a bit unclear as to when the pass is made, and whether tackle zones affect it etc etc.

Ta in advance

You're confused by "declare' aren't you? The block is the part of the Blitz that happens when you're standing right next to the player, in an adjacent TZ so yes, there is the Blocker/Blitzer's TZ on the Dump Off player whe he "declares" the block.

Sorry.

No problems, was just a bit unclear.

It's still only a 3+. Unless there's more than 1 TZ. Or someone's got disturbing presence. Or he's got an AG decrease. :(

Your opponent probably moved an assist up first, so its usually 2 TZs and 4+. Better get nerves of steel.

The problem is that when a player makes a Blitz, they may make a Block at some point, but they are not commited to it until they are standing next to a player and say I'm blocking this one. So even if they say I'm Blitzing that player over there with the ball you have to wait until they reach the player before dumping off.

Yeah, very true, especially if the player thinking he is going to blitz really decides he wants some blood first or can't remember what it was he was thinking so he just stands there lost in thought.

Maybe your opponent wants to 'clear the field' of those possible catching players, the ones you could make the dump off to. So, blocking your runner into a very lonely position is maybe the best way of getting rid of dump off.

Or he burns a reroll on a dodge and decided the GFIs and block is too risky without it or whatever. The Block portion of the Blitz is optional but not taking it does NOT then make it a Move.
