Tentacles and re rolling......
When playing Nurgle in a tourney this weekend, something came up I hadnt even considered.
The Beast is next to a Wardancer. WD tries to dodge away, both make a tentacles roll. WD Fails. Has option to re roll using a TRR.
BUT - would the beast ALSO re roll his dice? If you are the Welf player you would now know what the Beast roll is (ie, you may have both rolled ones) so you could argue that it is unfair on the nurgle player.
Should the Nurgle coach
a) be forced to re roll
b) have a choice
c) have no choice, it's down to the welf coach to make his own choice now he sees the Beast's roll.

I agree...the ACTIVE team gets the shot at the reroll, therefore it is to their benefit and the opponent's team has no recourse.
The same is true for shadowing. The both teams roll, the dodger may elect to reroll their d6 modified by movement, the shadower may not.

Agreed. But can you reroll with pro?wesleytj wrote:I agree...the ACTIVE team gets the shot at the reroll, therefore it is to their benefit and the opponent's team has no recourse.

Indeed you can. Pro allows you to try and reroll one reroll per turn, both turns allow for a seperate pro attempt.Bonehead wrote:Agreed. I kept away from this at the weekend 'cos my 5.0 knowledge extends to "4th+ the bits I've played which have changed" and I was still half asleep at the time
Having looked at it I don't see why the tenty player should get to re-roll. It's out of their turn. I can see the issue here, because at the point of the first roll there is no set solid target number and players are "dicing off", but I don't see that as enough of an issue to change basic idea of using team/skill re-rolls.
Besides, if the tenty player rolled a 6 they wouldn't want to anyway

Hi all,
I don't have the rulebook to check (so take my opinion with a grain of salt) but from my understanding BOTH have to roll again IF the WD decides to reroll a failed attempt to get away from the Beast (the Beast player can't decide to reroll).
It's the Move action that has failed and therefore the whole process (both players rolling the dice) has to be repeated.
Cheers

Ruling:
WD is moving .. thus he is the active players ... active players can re-roll things during their turn. (Inactive players cannot use re-rolls other than Pro).
So if WD fails a Tentacles rolls then:
WD can use Team Re-roll or Pro to try JUST HIS roll again.
If the Tentacles roll was a success for the WD then the Nurgle player could use Pro if he had it to try and re-roll his dice.
But each dice roll is seperate.
This is actually addressed on page 60 of the LRB 5.0:

GalakQ: Can you use re-rolls when rolling for Tentacles, Shadowing and Pro?
A: Yes as long as it is your team's turn. However, you may use the Pro skill on Tentacles and Shadowing rolls during either team's turn.

Interesting argument. However there is also an alternative view which (I feel) gives more balance to both sides. Taking the following:
[quote]"Some skills are also used in the opponent’s turn. In this case you
may choose to use the skill after an opposing player carries out
an Action or moves a square. If both coaches want to use a skill
to affect the same Action or move, then the coach whose turn is
taking place must use his skill first.
Note that you can’t ‘go back’ in time and use a skill or re-roll to
affect an earlier Action. For example, if a player was blitzing, you
couldn’t have him throw a block, move a couple of squares, and
then say “Actually, I think I’ll use my Pro skill to re-roll that block.â€

Hey I got nothing to do with whether this is a concept or not... at present the rules on Page 60 clearly state that there is such a thing as a failed Tentacles and Shadowing roll. So we are past theory on this one.lucifer wrote:Unlike Galak, I don't believe there is a concept of a "failed" tentacle roll.

Sorry Galak, but I believe you are wrong to state that the concept of a "failed" tentacles exists already.
The quote is taken direct from p.60 of LRB 5.0 and uneditted. Please can you point out where the word "failed" appears in the above.Q: Can you use re-rolls when rolling for Tentacles, Shadowing and Pro?

Lucifer ... your point is completely academic and honestly not a debate point. Whether the roll is failed or not is irrelevant to be frank ... page 60 says you can use re-rolls and Pro and it also says that such things can happen after you see the result of dice roll ... the result is not a known item until both rolls (dodger and tentacled player) are made.lucifer wrote:Sorry Galak, but you are utterly wrong on this matter.

Well, that's cleared it up for me. Active Player rolls, Active Player sees the result of their dice roll, Active Player then decides whether to reroll, then Passive Player makes the Tentacles roll (option to reroll after).GalakStarscraper wrote:... page 60 says you can use re-rolls and Pro and it also says that such things can happen after you see the result of dice roll ...
