Can old players still be assistant coaches for free?

Under LBR 5.0 can you still move a player that is no longer "valuable" to be an assistant coach for free? Obviously removing him from the playing roster and adding him into the team cost for him being a coach without paying the 10,000? I have looked all over LBR 5.0 and see nothing of it saying either way...

No, you can't.

You have to buy one.

IMO: No.

Not in the rules, can't do it anymore, you must buy your ACs now.

No, it has just been removed from the rules. So nothing mentions not being able to specifically.

Deliberately (i.e. we wanted you to pay) because coaches are much more useful now and giving away free ones didn't seem like a good idea.

I remember Galak saying something back during the Vault phase.

Assistant coaches and cheerleaders are ment to be something you spent your extra money on.

As I understant it, the actual numbers of sacking players increased with the introduction of LRB 5.0 (tough I don't know as I only started playing in a league during the Vault).

That and the increased value of assistant coaches might be the reason you can't do it anymore.

They're hardly free. Though some injuries made the choice easier than others, it usually costs you a skilled player.

Personally, I liked the old rule, and wouldn't mind it back in the game. It was great fluff, and allowed you to hold on to old players if you wanted to.

The game is probably better "balanced" this way, but I think this was one case where you could have looked the other way at a potential unbalance.

It was ridiculous when teams could get the 10K cheerleaders and coaches as inducements- that was a balance issue I was glad to see go.
