LRB5 scoring inconsistency

That is not a rules question, more an observation.

As I read LRB5 recently, I noticed an inconsistency with scoring rules in regard to own/opponent's turn.

If you score during your turn, a check is made only after completing an action, i.e. you can declare a Hand-Off, enter endzone with the ball, hand the ball off out of the endzone and continue with your turn, there is no TD.

On the other hand, during opponent's turn the check is made "at any time", so for example it is not possible to use Frenzy to push the ball carrier into the crowd through the endzone without forcing a TD.

Do I get this right? I find it a little confusing...

Think of it as the player holding the ball having to actively put the ball to the ground. Now on your own turn the player can choose not to do this to delay the match. On the opponents turn the question arises of why would the player holding the ball not.

And it's been written like that in previous LRBs (and I think 3rd edition).

It has been written like that for a while, yes. But this thing about being able to walk in and out of the End Zone in your team's turn is something relatively new, isn't it? It sounds like an over-complication forced by one of the many unneccessary minor rules tweaks from LRB3/4/5 and I wouldn't be surprised if it was in part triggered by the Vampire OFAB scoring debate. Am I out in the blue here?

You're right. This was added in LRB 5.

If something seems ridiculous, it probably is.

I don't think so. The wording might have been cleaned up in LRB5, but you could definetly walk in and out of the EZ in earlier editions.

Darkson is right ... that wording allowing you to do this has been around since 3rd edition ... over 10 years that has been that way.

And there are few good ways to try to "fix" it. We kicked it around as part of the Vault and the wording gets convulted fast. (and this is not a request for folks to try and work on rewording it).
