prone big guy question

Many big guys have rolls they have to make before they can take an action. If they are prone, do you need to make those kinds of rolls, i.e. bonehead, really stupid, wild animal, take root etc. before standing up, or do you make them after standing up?

Roll when you declare your type of action - and you do that before standing up.

Right, so he may stay prone... indefinitely, if you keep rolling ones....

indeed, or 1,2,3 for a wild animal

We tend to roll to see if the treeman makes his GFI first and once he's on his feet then roll for Take Root, just doesn't seem to make sense for him to Take Root if prone since the rules state that going prone breaks the roots.

As long as you understand that is only your house rule ... that's fine.
Failing to stand does not have the player Placed Prone ... he just stays Prone ... so its not the same. So per the rules you do roll for Take Root first and the roll to see if he stands up. Anything else is a house rule change.

so basicly, a prone treeman who failed the take root roll will stay on the ground, and wont be able to move till the drive/half ends or he manages to get up and is blocked down again..
Luckely a take rooted player can still get up at 4+, sigh

Can I just see if I understand this is what happens after a treeman is knocked over:
1. Declare move/blitz action
2. 2+ Roll for take root (If he fails he can still try to get up on a 4+,but will have MA0 from now on) (P48)
3. 4+ roll for standing up with MA2 (a fail here ends his turn) (P11)
4. Assuming the 2+ and the 4+ are made, the treeman is now standing and can move normally (unless you have previously failed a take root roll while prone. If you failed one earlier while standing he becomes uprooted following the knockdown)
Is this right?

You had it right except for this last part. Failing to stand is not being Knocked Down (which is a term in Blood Bowl that results in armour and possible injury rolls).
So the correct last part should read:
If you pass the 2+ and 4+ you may stand and GFI to move if desired (unless you failed a Take Root roll at any point while the Treeman was Prone as your MA is now 0 and GFI is prohibited).

Thanks, that was what I meant.
I was referring to the earlier knockdown, which cancels an even earlier take root.

Uh... is there a "not" missing between "Failing to stand is" and "Knocked Down", or are you saying that I should be taking an armour roll whenever one of my trees fails to stand up??
