Leap through tentacles

Hiya guys,

if a player leaps from one square out-side the TZ of a player with tentacles, to another square also out-side the TZ, but has to move through an intervening square inside the TZ of the tentacles player, do they have to test for tentacles to move to the second square?

EG player A is the leaper, B is the player with tentacles. Player A wants to leap to position marked by O, meaning they must leap over a TZ with tentacles in it.

Code: Select all

. . A . .
O x B x .
If they could be caught by tentacles, then what happens in the case that there is another player already in that spot. Obviously they can't be caught and end up sharing the spot with that player. This second issue is moot if I'm wrong in thinking tentacles can catch leapers anyway.

thanks,
Greg

Leap never says you are in the middle square. You spend 2 points of movement to move to the new square (that is 2 squares away). You don't have to choose the path of your leap. It mentions you can do this even if you have to leap over another player, but that reads more like fluff than game rules.

Tentacles says you can use it when a player leaps out of one of your tackle zones. Since the leaping player is never technically in his tackle zone then he can't use tentacles.

That's how I read it anyway.

If I'm reading leap wrong and you do have to choose the path of your leap, and you go through the TZ of the tentacle player, and he succeeds in tentacaling you then the phrase "If the result is 5 or less, then the moving player is held firm, and his action ends immediately" would make the leap action "hold firm" and end his turn. The way I'd read a leap action failing and "holding firm" is the leap player stays in the square he tried to leap from.

But that's not how I think it actually works.

You are never "in" the middle square ... Tentacles cannot grab you.
