Mercenaries, injured players and limits

We have a problem in our league that occured currently. A skaven team in our league has got 2 blitzers on the roster and one of them has to miss the next game. The coach is thinking about hiring a mercenary blitzer with a skill as inducement for the next game. We are not sure if that is possible. This is what we found by consulting the LRB (doesn´t matter if 5 or 6):

"The normal limits on the total number of players allowed on a team and in each position do apply to Mercenaries (...)."

That´s clear. It means only 16 players in total and only 2 blitzers. But the next sentence is a bit confusing:

"However, players that are missing the game due to injury do not count towards the number of players on the team, so Mercenaries can be used to replace players that are missing a game."

This sentence says that missing players do not count towards the limit in total, but do they count towards the positional limit neither? Or to put it shortly: can he hire a the skaven blitzer mercenary?

I think he can, but the quotes you provided does raise some doubts. No rulebook with me at the moment, so can't make this answer any better (or even remotely helpful :-) )

He can hire the Blitzer, as he only has 1 for the next game.

From the Q&A:

Q: I have 4 Black Orcs of which one has a Miss Next Game injury. May I hire a mercenary Black Orc?
A: Yes.

You are reading to hard into "do not count towards the number of players on the team"

That means they don't count towards the number of players on the team for any purpose. If it was only for the 16 it would say "do not count towards the maximum limit of 16 players on the team". It is generic on purpose to mean that it relates to both the 16 limit and the positional limit.

The stress is that they simply "do not count"

Probably it´s because we´re no native speakers. When it comes to details, it´s hard to understand the exact meaning in rules written in a (for us) foreign language.

Thanks a lot for your opinions and clarifications! That is exactly what we thought that would the right and we will handle it that way.
