Jump Up and Bombardier

Post by nazgob »

If I give my bombardier Jump Up, can he throw a bomb on the same turn as he stands up?

"If the player declares any Action other than a Block Action, he may stand up for free"

Its not a block action...

first line of bombardier skill says
A coach may choose to have a Bombardier who is not Prone or Stunned throw a bomb instead of taking any other Action with the player.
guess that answers that question for you ;]

Emphasis is mine: "throw a bomb instead of taking any other Action with ..."
Which would mean that to throw a bomb is an action... which would consequently mean that you could use jump up...

Otherwise it would have to read "throw a bomb instead of taking any Action with ..."

However Bombardier skill also mentions " except that the player may not move or stand up..." ... But can he jump-up? *lol*... In the end I'd say no

How about this:
You can declare a throw bomb action for prone bombardier but since he's prone he may not throw the bomb (he takes an action that doesn't allow him to do anything, but he still takes the action). If he has Jump Up you can declare the throw bomb action, stand him up for free, and then since he is not prone he is allowed to throw the ball. The rules for bombardier says that he may not move or stand up before throwing the ball, not that he must be standing up when he takes the action, and since he could stand up for free he doesn't actually count as standing up befor throwing the bomb.

Quite a big stretch, I know. But it feels like that's how it should be :P

rules for throwing the bomb and the ball are two different sets.
to throw the ball you have to declare a pass.
to throw the bomb you have to declare a bomb throw.

if you wish, you may declare a move/block/blitz/pass/foul for the bombardier, and stand up for free (or roll for block), but not a bomb throw.
The list of action is at page 7, and the bomb isn't there. It's not an action, is a skill (that does not even consume the pass action for the turn, as TTM does), so you can't JU.

am I right, this time, grum?

see my first reply, the second post in this thread

the bomber starts the turn prone and he can't throw a bomb! it is the very first line of the bombardier skill!

it is as simple as that ;]

the skill description for bombardier says that throwing a bomb is a special action.
It also says that you can have a bambardier that is not prone throw a ball . Nothing is mentioned about him being prone at the start of the turn, only that he can't be prone if you want him to throw a bomb.
It also says that he may not move or stand up before throwing the bomb.
However, I recall a different discussion involving Jump Up and Take Root, where a prone rooted player didn't have to roll to stand up (for having less than 3 move points) since he could stand up for free with jump up. That's why I argue that a a bombardier with Jump Up doesn't count as standing up before throwing the bomb, because it's "free".
