JKL:

I think I've emailed these questions directly to you ... if I have I'm sorry up front for repeating them here ... just wanted a low traffic place to ask and so that the answer could be shared with others.

1) Fanatic is now providing extremely large circle bases with the official Treeman and Kroxigor figs instead of the standard 1" diameter bases. For the interception rules, it says that a player can intercept if the range ruler touches his base .... so which of the following is the correct BB2k1 ruling:
a) The standard 1" round base should be used for all calculations of possible interceptions.
b) Normal players use the 1" round base, Big Guy players may use the larger round base to check for possible interceptions.
c) The use of the wording for player's base is going to be discontinued in favor of the square that the player is in for checking for possible interceptions.

Currently I've ruled option a for my league and Ronald and I programmed the PBeM software to calculate on a standard round base, but if this is incorrect we'd like to fix the software ... if option A is incorrect for BB2k1, since there are leagues that use 3rd edition rules with the PBeM software, would you say that option A was the correct ruling for 3rd so that we can program it both ways. Thanks.

2) Since the rules allow me to use the Dodge skill during a Pass Block. I have currently ruled that for a Pass Block move the following skill can also be used as part of it:
Leap
Pro (dodging/leaping)
Two Heads (dodging)
Stunty/Titchy (dodging)
Break Tackle (dodging)
Stand Firm (failed dodges)
Jump Up

Is my ruling correct? ... if not would you please expand on why the skill is different from Dodge so I can explain it to my league. Currently we've programmed the PBeM software to allow for all of the above but if that is incorrect again I'd like to fix the program.

Thanks,
Galak

Galak, I was wondering the same thing about the player's base. Did you get an answer to your questions?

Thanks,

BBRC will review the passing and interception code that is based on bases in October.

Bookie odds favor an official change to a wording that uses squares on the pitch.

For interceptions: range ruler crosses the square the player is in.

For passing: I'm hoping for the midpoint of the square, but it could be a the range line crosses any part of the square.

These changes are easy ones that shouldn't meet much debate as they will settle a lot of problems with the base rulings. If they base wording is still used after October, I'm order 40mm rounds which are technicially legal now since they ship with the BB Treeman and using them for all my players.

Personally, I think that the option c is the best one. The squares are fixed to the pitch, so there should be no arguments about whether the range ruler touches the square or not. And, in addition, it makes it a bit harder to find a position where you can throw without the opponent being able to intecept.

And what comes to Pass Block, we've always considered it a free move action with 3MA without being able to go for extra squares.

Also - I support ruling the use of the range ruler as: the round spot in the beginning end should be exactly in the middle of the throwers square, and the line in the middle must pass exactly through the middle of the intended catchers square.

We have always used squares instead of bases. Bases are a personal preference so you can't rely on them... some of us try and mount their Big Guys on small square bases but I prefer the large round ones (the little ones look silly IMO!).

I would prefer it based on the bases, but rule that all minis must have bases appropriate to their size. Why not let big guys have longer arms? Personally i think Treemen should have the equivilent of very long legs for purposes of interceptions. GW wants us to play games wysiwig (spelling?), so why shouldnt bb be like that in some instances.

Because rules of bases = appropriate size are significantly more of a pain than just fixing the rules to the static pitch.

I would think only for pbem. Otherwise have only 2-3 base sizes, 3 only if u want stunty/tichty to have their own.

I would go for using the size of the square instead of base size. I know I base on all different sizes so it's hard to be consistant there.
