Really stupid and Bombardier

This came up in a recent match I played:

My Gobbo Bomber throws a bomb. This throw is intercepted and the bomb is thrown to my Troll.
The question is now whether the troll has to pass his really stupid roll to catch the bomb. We agreed that he has to try and catch it since the bomb hits his square and the rules say "If the ball lands in a square occupied by a standing player, then the player must attempt to catch the ball."
So now amazingly my troll rolls a 6 and catches the bomb. The rules for Bombardier now say that he has to throw it again. The relevant passage reads: "A bomb may be intercepted or caught using the same rules for catching the ball, in which case the player catching it must throw it again immediately. This is a special bonus Action that takes place out of the normal sequence of play."

So is it now necessary for him to pass his RS roll? He is performing an Action, even if it is a bonus action.
We couldnĀ“t agree on a solution here.

Can any of the rules Gurus araound here help?

No RS roll is needed. You roll for RS when you "declare" an Action, but re-throwing a bomb is an Action you HAVE to take - you don't declare it.

P.S. I know the answer is correct, but I might have the explanation as to why it's correct wrong, but I'm happy with it. ;)

do note though that if they failed stupid (or any other skill that makes them lose their TZ, bonehead, hyp gaze) then they player can't attempt to catch

normally with the ball you just scatter it though iirc a bomb would just blow up on their square

I agree with Darkson. Declaring actions and actually performing actions are two separate things. And Really Stupid (and Bonehead, Bloodlust and Wild Animal) only trigger when you declare an action.

I'm going to hijack this thread since it's pretty dead anyway and no need to make a new Thread with a similiar question.

A ball was loose after the carrier was sacked and bounced to a boneheaded Ogre. In my mind opinion, the Ogre could not have rolled to get tha ball as it was boneheaded and it states (page 63) that the Ogre cannot catch, along with anything else. In the bouncing ball section it states (page 13) that a player where the bouncing ball lands must attemtp to catch the ball, yet the Ogre's player contested that bouncing and catching are two different things which would mean the ogre could attempt to claim the ball on a bounce.

So in short, is claiming a bouncing ball a catch? Which would mean it can be re-rolled with the catch skill and prevent bone-headed or really stupid from attempting it?
