2nd edition Big Guys question

Post by dooovall »

At what point in the history of Blood Bowl did it become customary for Human teams to use Ogres? From what I can glean in the 2nd edition rules, Ogres are chaotic while Humans are not. Thus, in 2nd edition games, Treemen would be more appropriate Big Guys for Humans. I'm currently assembling a 2nd edition Human team and am wondering if I should augment them with just Treemen or toss in an Ogre too. (Yes, some of us still actually play with the 2nd edition rules.) Can Humans and Treemen be on the same team in the current incarnation of the game?

Nope, humans and treemen can't work together in the current edition, not even deeproot. But would you want to work with someon who slaughtered you family and kin by the thousands and used their remains to build houses?

I am not that knowledgeable on the lore of the game to know why. I think MorgnThrog lead to it since he could play on just about any team. Treeman is an interesting idea.

Not all ogres are chaotic. Or even if that is the case, they are still not always Evil. I think an ogre could be kinda neutral, if it really matters anyway. In real life football teams there are people from all alignments and they work together quite fine. Maybe the chaotic ones get more penalties.

I am just saying that isn't it quite boring and stereotypic to assume that all individuals of a race behave the same?

And players work for the team and that's the common goal they need. What happens outside the field is another thing. We are talking about sorts of mercenaries here and they do stuff for money.

BB world is NOT WH world.
thus the differences.

p.s.: are you playing with 2nd edition rules?

Bloodbowl happens in a world of fantasy. In my fantasy world everything is possible. We use the rules we find best.

It might be that there are different opinions how BB should be played. I want it to be fun.

Ogres play/fight for anyone in the traditional GW world. It is only in very recent versions of the game that they became solely chaotic. In early versions of WFB Ogres were a standard part of the Empire army list (along with Halflings & Dwarfs). After that changed, they were still neutral mercenary types in the Dogs of War list that spanned several editions. And if any race are going to use mercenary types it will be Humans, who are more socially inclusive than races such as Elves etc.

More importantly, IIRC Humans had access to an Ogre in 1st and 2nd edition BB. Even more importantly it's vital for the roster's balance.

I think dwarves should have the big guy myself. Deathroller is fun and in a pick up game worth having maybe (MM system) but in a serious league it is way too much of a TV bloat for 1 drive in my opinion.

All the big guys are a TV bloat for what you get from them in my opinion but at high end games, Dwarves really struggle and having one guy with some str would be really nice against the other basher teams.

Ha...

You're kidding, right ? They start with a load of skills, can get str skills on linos, already have 2 dauntless players in their roster...?

Going from 40K to 50K with their rerolls was really needed, but I wouldnt mind them having rerolls of 60K. They only need a few skills to become even better, ESPESCIALLY in bashing ! They really dont need another str boost.

If you cannot stall out for an 8 turn drive to score with dwarves then you need to go and play canasta with your dad..if you can find him.

I thinks Mv4 and the slow skill up is enough of a 'nerf' for dwarfs.
