What do you think of the stadium rules?

I'm considering using these for our league, but they seemed like they give a big advantage to the teams with them. Though they do cost a lot, I'm not sure if it balances. What do you guys think? I'd really like to hear from anyone who's tried them out, too.

The league I play in uses stadium rules and it does make a difference if you play at home vs away. But we balance the home vs away as much as possible.

I'd have everyone look over the various advantages you're proposing and play test some of them to see how they impact your game.

Well when we used the stadium rules what happened was that nobody purchased them until they had nothing else to spend their cash on. So most teams with stadiums were around TR's of 200+. The effects of the stadiums hit the lower TR's hard but really didn't do much to the other higher ranked teams.

Under this new cash system I'm not sure if you'll ever have the cash available to buy them.

Yeah, I dunno about their rules. This is what I was toying with in my head for custom rules for home fields:

Each team gets to choose one field material type, and can alter the weather chart on their home field by switching the Nice result for one other. This choice must be in theme for the team, and checked with the commissioner.

For instance, my Lizardman team might choose that since its field is at a temple in the middle of the jungle, they play on a stone surface with a weather chart that looks like this:

2: Nice
3: Very Sunny
4-10: Sweltering Heat
11: Pouring Rain
12: Blizzard

If every team gets this choice, it would be balanced in the sense that each team would have a fairly unique field, and give the team more of a cool feel(like norse always playing in the snow, or whatever).

So whaddaya think? Hrm... maybe this would be better in the house rules section, sorry!

Generally speaking, I'm against anything permanent that you can add to the team. Buying a stadium becomes a permanent addition to your teams TR, just like wizards used to be (except that wizards could be killed with cards...).

And also, as you know from the 3rd ed fluff, teams no longer own stadiums.

To me there seems to be two options:

1.Stadium roll
Check to see in what kind of a stadium you play in in the beginning of a match. I'm under the impression that some BBRC member has at some point proposed something like this, except that the stadium was chosen according to TR, gate or something...

2. Freeboot stadiums
The 'Home' team can select the stadium that they play in - by paying a suitable amount of money. This is a one-off payment that gives you the stadium for this match only.

Personally I don't like the idea of freebooting.
In my league we use long term teams, and I would like some more team management just for the fun of it.
IMO there should be some rules were you get a stadium for free with rules acording to your race, and the you can buy ad-ons to your stadium.

If you ask me, there's no team management involved if you can buy permanent add-ons. That's just gradually increasing the power level of the league. Collecting money and buying new permanent stuff as soon as you can afford it is not team management.

If you have to rent (rent is a better word than freeboot) the stadium every time you want to use it, then you really have to manage your team in order to have the stadium as often as you want to.
Failing the management task you might not have money for the stadium in the important match, whereas if you manage the team well, you have the stadium with all the benefits that it offers when you need it.

Some teams own stadiums.

Actually the best rules I've seen for stadiums were Neo's. Don't know the link but I'm sure they're on his page somewhere...I'll go see if I can find them and come back...

Hmmn. The link doesn't work. He must have taken it down. Sadly I don't have them anymore either. At least not in 1's and 0's and I'm not typing them out. You'll have to bother Neo or Tom or somebody for them.
