Side Step and Stand Firm against B&C when prone

Another question.

Looking at the rules it appears you cannot use Stand Firm when prone and hit by Ball & Chain because Stand Firm rules say- 'as the result of a block'

and correct me if I'm wrong but when you hit a prone player with Ball and Chain this doesn't count as a block while hitting standing players does.

Same for Fend really as this says the word block in the description too.

However when you check the Side Step rules it does not say this. It just says -

'to represent this ability, his coach may choose which square the player is moved to when he is pushed back'...

Is this right? Or am I missing something.

Many thanks in advance :)

CRP page 23, Skills section:
Unless otherwise stated in the skill description, the following rules apply to all skills:
...
6. Only Extraordinary skills work when a player is Prone or Stunned.
SF, SS and Fend do not work when prone.

I've missed that one myself before ;)

if a fanatic moves into a square occupied by a prone player that player is pushed back and an armour roll is made, there is no block action so stand firm or fend would not work. I dont think they work when prone anyway, only skills that are stated as working when prone (EG:disturbing presence) or state when the player takes an action (EG:Wild animal as standing up is a move action technically) work when your eating dirt.

Thats the way i understand it, I will of course be ready to stand corrected!!

They don't require a block action, just a block. Otherwise they'd not work on Blitz Actions.

Dont see why they wouldnt work on blitz actions as a blitz is a move action combined with a block action according to the book? however in my example they wouldnt work on a rolling pushback (which was never the question) I do however see your point

A Blitz Action is a move and a block, not a Move Action and an Block Action.
Blitz: The player may move a number of squares equal to their
MA. He may make one block during the move. The block may be
made at any point during the move, and "costs" one square of
movement.
The distinction is minor but important for things like Multiple Block which only work on Block Actions, not Blitz Actions. The rulebook goes to great pains to distinguish between the two for this reason.
