Star players outside the latest LRB

Post by Jembo17 »

Many apologies if this relates to a thread already explored, but I did do so searching and try and answer my question before posting.

I have the latest LRB and the list of star players from that. However, my question is that are none of the star players contained in any Citadel Journals, the BB Compendiums, or any other releases allowed to be used? And is the Bretonnian team allowed?

The LRB seems to suggest "no", but it just appears a massive waste of all those created stars (though I fully appreciate that some of them were created more as a abit of fun).

Just wanted to ask the question and then see what people thought... :)

The short answer is "no" but the slightly longer answer is that if your league agrees to it then you can pretty much do what you want. Some of the older stars may not be appropriate or may need updating to work with this ruleset though.

Jembo - you need to be careful with the pricing of old Stars. In 3rd Edition, many Stars were underpriced by quite a bit - say half of what their price should have been.

I don't know what the pricing formula for Stars is, but if you take the cost of a rostered player plus skills and stat increases, that will give you a guide to minimum price (most Stars in the current ruleset add a bit to this as well).

Hope that helps.

Somewhere in the Archive viewforum.php?f=32.should be a thread from Galak es consuming how the Stars were designed/coated for LRB 5/CRP.

IF you can't find it (and if I'm honest, I didn't in my quick look  ) a PM to him will probably have him find it.

As others have said the alternative stars were pretty easy to transfer between 3rd edition and everything up to lrb4. After that the rules and costs for stars were changed extensively and some of the most powerful ones were toned down (Griff, Httark, Ramtut and the Count all spring to mind).

So it would be a tricky job to update these stars and make them interesting enough to take, quite a few stars are pretty awful so almost never used (Dolfar and J Earlice spring to mind) but not overpowered.

As for Brettonians there are quite a few incarnations about so you have several rosters to choose from. When it comes to playing them then you’d be limited as I only know of Plasmoid’s roster being used online. Of course in your own league you can do whatever you want and change the rules to suit, so could have dozens of new teams and stars. You’d just need to get your fellow gamers to agree.

One thing to note is that Brettonians are quite a divisive team, probably more so than any other.
