Trampoline Trap - Specifically, Landing.

Post by Genghis »

Hot topic for discussion in our league, as Dirty Trick cards are a fairly popular inducement.

Trampoline Trap:
Play after your turn has ended or your kick-off to an opponent is resolved, but before your opponent’s turn begins.

Choose any opposing player. Using all the rules for the Throw Team-Mate skill, the player is automatically thrown (i.e., cannot be fumbled) to a target square that is D6 squares away in a random direction from his own square (use the scatter template). The player will need to make a landing roll as normal if they land on the pitch.
Some coaches are interpreting that bolded bit to mean that if the player hit with the trap does not have Right Stuff, they cannot make a landing roll as normal, and therefore automatically hit the turf.

I don't agree, and was wondering what the correct interpretation is.

No official ruling on it, but we always play it assuming the intention is that the landing player rolls to land as if he had the ability to do so. Anything else kind of makes that already awesome card way too good.

Right Stuff (Extraordinary)
A player with the Right Stuff skill can be thrown by another player from
his team who has the Throw Team-Mate skill
. See the Throw Team-Mate
skill entry below for details of how the player is thrown. When a player
with this skill is thrown or fumbled and ends up in an unoccupied square,
he must make a landing roll unless he landed on another player during
the throw. A landing roll is an Agility roll with a -1 modifier for each
opposing player’s tackle zone on the square he lands in.
If he passes the
roll he lands on his feet. If the landing roll is failed or he landed on
another player during the throw he is Placed Prone and must pass an
Armour roll to avoid injury. If the player is not injured during his landing
he may take an Action later this turn if he has not already done so. A
failed landing roll or landing in the crowd does not cause a turnover,
unless he was holding the ball.
Note the two bolded parts. Right stuff confers the ability to be thrown and that is all. A landing roll is a specific agility roll. This is backed up by the sentence between the two bolded parts.
