Blocking a adjcent player when standing up

Post by Nighthawk »

Suppose I have a prone player which stands up to block an opponent in an adjacent square.

Is this a blitz or block action?

Technically he didn't move any squares to blitz, however standing up costs 3 MA.

If you take the text of LRB literally, a player cannot stand up and hit a player next to him without dodging out and coming back in his original square for the hit.

You must blitz...

Indeed, and you don't have to dodge away first!

A Blitz action just means you can block and move in one turn; so you can block first and then move, or you can move first and then block, or you can move, block, and move on.

Finally, standing up counts as a move action, unless done as part of a pass, hand-off, fouling or blitz action (did I miss any), which all include a moving part.

Unless, of course, you have Jump Up.

Then, standing up costs no movement, and you can therefore stand up and Block an opposing adjacent player without Blitzing.

You cannot move after that Block (other than to follow up) but if you Frenzy, you still throw that 2nd block.

You of course retain the option to Blitz, stand up, throw the Block, and use the rest of your movement as you normally would.
