Hail mary pass
Hi everyone,
Just two questions :
1) Does the tackle zone modifier affect a thrower with HMP ? I mean if he throw a Hail mary pass, and got one tacle zone on him, does he fumble on 1 or on 1 and 2 ?
2) I m false sure about this one, but want a confirmation : In case the hail mary pass is catch by a player from the active team, then there s no turnover right ?
Thanks for your answer.

Re: Hail mary pass
No. It's a special kinda pass that ignores things like range, tackle zones, interception attempts, etc., or at least that's the way we've read it. I know of nothing that contradicts that.neverdodge wrote:Hi everyone,

Correct, that's why a lot of teams that use Hail Mary also get catchers with Diving Catch. I personally never use either, but to each their own.neverdodge wrote:2) I m false sure about this one, but want a confirmation : In case the hail mary pass is catch by a player from the active team, then there s no turnover right ?

Re: Hail mary pass
Obviously some people play it differently, but I've always played that TZ effect HMP fumbles.neverdodge wrote: 1) Does the tackle zone modifier affect a thrower with HMP ? I mean if he throw a Hail mary pass, and got one tacle zone on him, does he fumble on 1 or on 1 and 2 ?
Correct, its not a turnover. This is the same for any pass that isn't a fumble.neverdodge wrote:2) I m false sure about this one, but want a confirmation : In case the hail mary pass is catch by a player from the active team, then there s no turnover right ?

@zeroalpha
I think you're wrong. Having tackle zones count and making a fumble more possible would make perfect sense in accordance to all the other passing rules (balls, TTM) but this explicitly says that no modifiers apply and its a 2+ roll for getting the ball away.
I guess the reason is to make hail mary pass different and better than the normal passing to an empty square (which you are allowed to do and not even need a special skill btw).
And before anyone asks: you may use pass to re-roll a Hail Mary Pass

narkotic, the rules do not say no modifiers, it says no range modifiers! It doesn't mention TZ at all.

Hail Mary Pass (Passing Skill)
The player may throw the ball to any square on the playing field, no matter what the range; the range ruler is not used. On a roll of 1 the player fumbles the throw, and the ball will scatter once from the thrower’s square. On a roll of 2-6 the player may make the pass. The Hail Mary pass may not be intercepted, but it is never accurate – the ball automatically misses and scatters three squares. Note that if you are lucky, the ball will scatter back into the target square! Also note that this skill is very useful when combined with the Diving Catch skill. This skill may not be used in a blizzard.

hhhmm, let me think.
It doesn't say no range modifers, it says (as you pasted):
The ball can be thrown to any point on the pitch regardless of range, no range ruler is used (to measure the distance), it's always succesfull on a 2+
it does not mention "range modifiers" (actually it does not mention any modifiers at all)
I checked the Oberwald (I know it's not official but maybe it can help) and it says: no modifiers of any kind apply (and it explicitly says no TZ).
Anyway, for my personal taste, I would consider TZ but the rules suggest that it's a straight 2+ roll which never ever gets modified.

Our league had this same connondrum and ruled that TZs count and that Pass could be used to reroll. After all even if you are tossing the ball way down the pitch, having three orcs in your face is going to make it much more difficult to get off. More realistic this way.
