regenerate without necromancer

How in the world did I get into my head, that normal undead players cannot use their regenerate ability if their head coach (necromancer) has been expelled by the referee? I've always played it like this (though a Troll or a Vampire is not dependant on a necromancer to regenerate), but I cannot find in the LRB or the Q&A available...
Am I way off in my head because of some old ruling somewhere or is it actually the way to play it?
And what about using the Raise Dead spell, if the necromancer has been sent away by the referee?

Those used to be the rules though they were removed

so you can raise dead even if the coach has been sent off

There was something in WD182(?) about it, but it no longer applies.

think it was in there as one of the special play cards let you kill the necromancer by shoving somebody off the pitch onto them. As this can't happen anymore this was removed from the FAQ

IIRC You couldn't regen or use Raise the Dead if the Head Coach was sent off either (so no arguing the call).

and yes, those were the times your players decided to die for the second (or more) time.
