Pro (BBRC Hotlist?)

LRB2.0 wrote:Pro (General Skill)
A player with this skill is a hardened veteran. Such players are called professionals or Pro’s by other Blood Bowl players because they rarely, if ever, make a mistake. Once per team turn, a Pro is allowed to re-roll any one dice roll he has made. However, before the re-roll may be made, his coach must roll a dice. On a roll of 4, 5 or 6 the re-roll may be made. On a roll of 1, 2 or 3 the original result stands and may not be re-rolled with a skill or team re-roll. A player cannot use this skill to re-roll an Armour or Injury roll.
The problem:

According to the Text only one Player may use Pro per Team Turn. Im sure however the intention of the text is "once per player turn".

Galak?

I understand it a bit different Toby.
Once per team turn, a pro..........
Here is a player who has the skill pro called a pro.
Its not the skill it refers to but the a player with it so the texture is not wrong but i understand it could be misunderstood.

Toby, you highlighted the right sentence, but the wrong phrase.

Once per team turn, a Pro(meaning the player, not the coach) is allowed to re-roll any one dice roll he has made.

There isn't any confusion. It is quite clearly once per turn for the player with the skill.

Asmodan has it right Toby .... you have the empHAsis on the wrong syLABBLE in the English text. Understandable since this is your 2nd language.

Well I didn't think it could be any clearer, but Toby had a question about it.

Galak, please consider this for your hotlist.

It would be an improvement to the Text if it would correctly differenciate between "player turn's" and "team turns".

In this the correct text would be "once during his turn, a pro..."

Blood Bowl is an international Game and the LRB is availiable in english only for Download, so the english used should be tweaked for a non native english audience a little.

*cough*

actually Toby has a point....

Now I AM englich and have always understood the way pro does and should work

BUT

the phrase in itself *is* logically ambiguous

"once per team turn a pro may"

can mean once per team turn anybody with pro can use it once during their action

OR

once per team turn someone can use pro

forgive me for being picky but it is a weak statement that 99% of us get right... but as we all know if there is room for debate you need a rule to point to - and this doesn't help you much - logically

its the way the english language uses "a" as a catch all. This simply wouldn't happen in a german rulebook :D

whether its important enough for the hotlist is up to you, I'm just pointing stuff out :D

I have never played with anyone that misunderstood it, but think this would fit more into redoing the entire rulebook and putting things in the proper order and rewording things like this. Probably not something for the hotlist.

I don't want to get into this :D

It may be pretty obvious to you but the words "he has" have no bearing on the logic of the sentence regarding how many times the skill may be used per turn (even if "we" all know its once per PLAYER)

Englich - Well I never said I could TYPE

Grumbledook - I may be in Sheffield mate, but I hail from Hemel Hempstead in Hertfordshire...

Maybe I shouldn't admit that!

It's funny that the lads who aren't English are actually pointing out the problems with the text. And they ARE right!!!!

Most of us know the rule.... any player who has the PRO skill may use it to reroll in a team turn,e.g. if there were three players with the skill then they may each use it in that team turn. etc etc....

But, the text does insinuate - A player (meaning effectively ONE player) may use the pro skill once per team turn.

I AM good at English (I have the equivalent of a degree in the subject! nah nah nah nah!! doesn't show does it?)

Doesn't matter though, you don't need to reword it - it's not worth it. There are much more important things to consider!!!!

Admittedly, the wording could be a bit more clear, however, I have to agree that this is not the most important thing to do concerning the rulebook...
