NOS

Post by Cool Hand Fluke »

My Catcher has NOS and has opponents on either side of him. Pass to NOS is straight on. Do they get a chance to intercept? (i'm thinking no, but the range ruler touches all 3 squares)

What do you think?

Yes they get a chance to intercept as its a normal pass and NOS does not stop opponents from trying to intercept.

I always thought that to intercept, you had to be between the passer and the receiver, not "flat" to either of them. Am I wrong ?

Wasn't this in last year's hot list?!?

I remember something like it... and changing from "player" to "square" - because of Big's bases...

Anyway I think in this situation:

I A
T C B

(T is thower, C is Catcher) I can intercept and neither A nor B can...

But without NOS C wouldn't catch, anyway.... :D

Damm!!! In the previous post it should be more like this:

XXXXXXIA
TXXXXXCB

Anyway, it was in the 2002 hot list:

Can an adjacent level opponent intercept? (ie in the below if T is thrower and C is catcher, can O intercept) ... he's under the range ruler, so the clarification needed here is what qualifies as BETWEEN the passer and catcher?

..T..
.....
..CO.
BBRC response: O cannot intercept. while he is under the range ruler, he is beside not between the thrower and catcher. The interceptor must necessarily be closer to the thrower than the receiver is.
So, in my example, above, I could intercept only if T was in the first row...

I thought there was an unofficial BBRC ruling that said level could intercept.

Only safe throw is a skill that can stop eleged players from trying to make an intercept. NOS does not infuence the question if an interception can be made in any way. I guess that's the answer to your question.
The other matter, about who is alliwed to catch is indeed on the hot list. :smoking:

actually the interceptor must be between the thrower and catcher .. in this case I'd say no

IT used to be just 'the range ruler passes over them'
but i thought in the LRB it was added 'and they are between the thrower and the catcher'

A defender standing next to the catcher or thrower intercepting never came up in my games so far, so i dont know how we interpret the rules here.

from the 2002 rules review, errata
Page 22: Replace the second sentence in the first paragraph of the Interceptions subsection.
To be able to make an interception, the player must be between the player who threw the ball and the player who is meant to receive it, and the plastic ruler must pass over at least part of the square the intercepting player is standing in.
this is why I as a commish ruled that you can't intercept when you are next to the reciever ... I'd say you can intercept however when the angle between the line of the pass and the line where the reciever and interceptors is less than 90 degrees. (imagine the them standing in the shape of a T:

I C I
..T
..P

where I is interceptor, C is catcher, P is passer (boy I hope I'm clear)

Page 22 LRB (it's even in red and it's VERY clear).

Dave is allmost right. (You posted your comment at the same time). It says:
To be able to make an interception, the player MUST BE BETWEEN THE PLAYER WHO THREW THE BALL AND THE PLAYER WHO IS MEANT TO RECEIVE IT, etc.)
Now how clear do you want to have it. That's means, not behind the receiving target and not next.

And again I state that it has NOTHING to do with the catcher having NOS.

Page 36 LRB Nerves of Steel
The player may ignore the -1 dice modifier for enemy tackle zones when he attempts to pass or catch the ball.
Nowhere it is said that it has any influence on opposing player to make the interception. Somebody just made that up. I think this says it all! :smoking:

I just checked with the pbemb tool and it agrees with Dave and Draco, but the throw must be excactly 90 degrees or 1 of the opponent players may intercept.
