Foul Appearance question

Post by Agentrock »

Have a couple of questions (or needed clarifications) on Foul Appearance:

1) Does a player with Wild Animal adjacent to an opponent with the Foul Appearance PM have to roll the D6 roll against the foul appearance to make a block? I believe that they do, but just wanted to see what others thought.

2) Does a player with the Ball & Chain have to make the D6 roll versus an opponent with Foul Appearance?

I might regret not actually looking up all the exact wordings at work here. Gut instict of the skills says Yes ... both WA and B&C need to roll for FA.

i concur fa says when being blocked

so that covers wild animal

and just read up the ball and chain rules and that also says its a block

so yes they both have to roll 2+

I figured as much...just wanted some second opinions before I put my foot down for the league clarifications on these issues.

Thanks again!

I'm going to disagree here.

A Chainsaw or Dagger is used in place of a block. They're done in subsitution, replacement, of a block.

To me, a block involves use of the block dice. I'd rule against FA affecting either of those secret weapons.

I do think this is unclear enough, however, to warrant official questioning.

I'm pretty sure Bud that the in place of a block wording has meant that blocking rules apply just no block dice. Best example .... you have to declare a blitz action to move and attack with the chainsaw or a dagger .. I know this is true. So if you have to use a blitz action to attack with a chainsaw, I'm positive you need to roll for FA.

:D

When you concider that the FA guys is so FOUL that he's putting throwers and catchers off their game 3 squares away, then there is probably a smell involved...

and think of a chainsaw... do you really want little bits of someone who makes your skill crawl spalting across your face...

As I said above, I think it's unclear as to be FAQ worthy.

In the example of a Blitz, a blitz is really a combined move and block action. If weapon use takes the place of a block, it's natural that you would have to use your Blitz to make use of the weapon after/while/before moving.

The case of the Fanatic is even more interesting. In Block rules, you get to add assists depending on positioning of a player. With the Fanatic, however, no assists are figured into the mess. The same goes for Wild Animal. Given that those two circumvent one part of the Blocking rules, it's not a stretch to think that they might circumvent other parts as well.

It's something that I wouldn't fault a commish for ruling either way.

Just what is the official wording on the dagger and chainsaw secret weapons? Does it use a phrase along the lines of 'in place of a block', or 'targets opponents using normal blocking rules'?

page 31 of the LRB

and attack instead of making a normal block

little lower in description

"a player armed with a chainsaw is allowed to use it to attack other players instead of making a normal block. When the chainsaw is used to make an attack, do not roll the block dice."

as for the ball and chain, the only action your allowed is the "move". your forced to take the block action if someone is in that square. so foul appearance wouldnt have effect. you cannot control it. anyways common sence why would a mushroom and brew fried finatic be paying attention to what he is hitting? he dont care if it is friend or foe.

my 2 cents

Steve
