Pass and Handoff

Is a handoff counted as a pass? (as in, can I only pass OR handoff in the same turn). I was discussing this with my friend, and we thought you could pass the ball, run some, then hand it off to another guy, and run some more.

passing the ball or throwing a team mate counts as your teams pass action for that turn..so you can only do one. hand off is its own action...so you could pick up the ball, pass it to a guy...have him run to another guy, and then hand off...or hand off to a teamate who then gets thrown, or passes....

I hope that makes some sense.

To make the handoff clear. It is an action of the player that has the ball in his hands.

A has the ball.
B does not.

You can walk with A to B and then do the handoff. The turn of A stops. B can then take an action or move if he has not yet done so. B can still move because catching a ball is not an action!

You can walk with B to A, stop the turn of B there. A can then take his action by handing off the ball, but B cannot do anything anymore for the remainder of that turn. The turn of A stops as well, right after the handoff.

This is a main difference for people who are/were used to playing 3rd edition rules where this is not mentioned!

The "Hand-off is a type of very short pass" is the bloodiest sentence written in any BB-publication. Due to this extremely ill written sentence, 60% of who read the rulebook on their own without assistance think hand-over uses your pass-action.

I have seen so many arguments when newbies (and some oldies alike) stubbornly claimed this wrong rule because "it stands in the handbook".

This is underlined by the fact that this is one of the most frequent questions on TBB.

If this sentence is still standing in LRB 3.0 I will write a letter to Andy Hall expressing my dissapointment.

Yeah they really should change the sentence on that rule.
Its definetly in the top 5 most frequently asked questions here and every time because of that stupid wording.
