less than 3 players

what with the rules review it says if you cannot field 3 players the game skips to turn 8 of the second half. So does this mean that if my team makes it to the semis of a tournament but is severely weakened due to casualties I can convert all but 2 of my players into assistant coaches therefore being unable to field enough players and stand a 50/50 chance of winning the game on penaly shootouts?

lol..where does it say it skips? The >3 players rule is a mistake and we're waiting for the amendment.

well it says "it simply means the match ends as if you'd finished turn 8 of the second half."
Hope they do change this, other than my silly example above I just imagine players racing through tackle zones and going for it in a desperate attempt to make sure they can't field 3 players and hoping for a draw or even holding on to a win.

But it also says that the side unable to field 3 on the LoS loses. Irrelevent anyway. It's gonna be changed.

How exactly do you expect it to be changed? Have you any idea?
I got hold of some rumours mentioning that it had been a "typo"
As i can't clearly imagine what correction can they make to the rule to keep it I guess it's gone to the dead/injured box.
Personally I would like it to never to have gotten past the BBRC!

Rumour mill says:
The rule will probably be:
<3 on the LOS, the player in this situation can either conceed without penalty or choose to continue playing.

That's a ridiculous rule! It gives you the chance to end a match with a draw where a Rampaging opponent might still have had a chance to win! (For instance if the opponent still has 4 turns or so to get to the ball (shouldn't be too hard with only 3 opponents) and make that second TD in the second half or so.)
That rule is really bad, I don't like it! Teams who get smashed actually get an advantage that way!

??? doesn't mean conceding that you lose the game?
I guess Galak meant with "conceding without penalty" is that you keep your money, MVP etc.

AFAIK that's right. You lose but you won't get any penalties for the conceeding.

Correct ... concession = you lose.
Page 45 of the LRB lists the extra penalites:
If one coach concedes the match then the winner gains
all of the loser’s money (from the game’s gate) and his
MVP, and may add +2 to his Fan Factor roll. In
addition, the loser automatically loses one Fan Factor
and may not roll for a new one, and any players in the
loser’s team that have 51 SPPs or more will leave the
team on a D6 roll of 1-3. Roll separately for each player
with 51 or more SPPs to see if they leave.
So conceeding still means you lose. Conceeding without penalty means you lose without doing all the above stuff from page 45.

You can only do this in the post match phase, not during the game.

Yeah but he did mean the post match ... I have to laugh at that one because Cidervampire is right that it would work if your league did penalty shoot outs. Glad the rule is getting fixed to the one that actually won the voting.

I would say: continue to play!
and give a touchback if nobody can kick! (no player on the field)

I have a question about the Less Than 3 on the Pitch rule. It seems that some coaches do not like the rule and feel that it could cause a team who is ahead in touchdowns to lose a game for lack of players to field. My question is has this happen?
I know that theoretically it could happen, but I am wondering if anyone has actually had a situation where they were ahead in the score and had to set up after a TD and did not have 3 players to set up on the pitch. I have not seen it. Maybe coaches in our league are playing their teams less smash & bash than other leagues.
Even if a one point you had less 3 pitch, the game stops only when you can set up less than 3 after a score. Since after a score you get a 50% chance to un-KO knocked out players, it seems likely that you should get at least 3 players back on the pitch, unless you roll a series of low rolls.
Also, most of the time, I’ve seen the team with only a few players left on the field is the team behind in the score. I thought of the Less Than 3 on the Pitch rule as a way to stop the team with more players from padding stats. Plus with only 2 players on the pitch, is it any fun to play? For either coach? Just wondering.
