Another Take on the New Piling On

I know there have been many threads on Piling On since the recent BBRC change to it; if this has been covered elsewhere, sorry.

I do think that PO, in the past was overpower (and that’s when I “coached” an Un-Dead team), but now I think it is too watered down (and now I field a goblin team).

I like the idea the new PO lets the player re-roll an armor roll after seeing the results; this keeps it in line with other skills (i.e. Dodge, re-roll after missing a dodge roll). But I think strength should still be tied into PO.

I wish the BBRC would have made PO more in line with Blocking. Compare the strength of the player with PO to the strength of the knocked down player. If the strengths are equal, PO gives you a simple re-roll. If the strength of the PO player is greater, you get a re-roll +1. If the PO player’s strength is more then twice as strong, you get a re-roll +2.

That seems to keep in the spirit of the original PO, by making it more useful the stronger the player is, without making too unbalance.

I suppose they could also say if the PO player strength is less then the knocked down player the modifier is -1 and -2 if it is more the twice as less.

There won't be any PoN Goblins. At least not by any coach that has a clue.

Galak is right, it seems foolish for a coach to use a double Star Player roll on PO for a goblin player; of course with the old rule ( a gobbie got a +2 to get through armor, which isn't bad) and with the new BBRC PO rule there is really no disincentive to pick PO for a low strength player. Of course it would be kinda silly. But, us goblin coaches are often a silly lot.

I agree, no Gobbo in it's right mind should have piling on.

Hasn't stopped a lot of complaints about the effectiveness of it on Gobbos from what i've seen though.

Just to be sure, it could be added to the PO description that a minimum Str value of 3 is required (just a like MB has)

I think this is a great idea, I have no doubt that PO needed to be toned down but I think it's been hit a bit hard.

At the moment it's worse than MB by my calculations, but requires you to go prone where MB doesn't.

I realise that these skills can be comboed but surely PO should be a little stronger given the cost of using it.

The exact modifiers would be dependant on the stats (chances of injury, etc.) but I don't think +1 (or maybe even +2) for equal ST would be overpowerful.

In my experience PO was never considered broken on anyone less than ST 4, but we played choose before the roll and there is obviously the re-roll to take into account now.

I've already made the calculations, and the new PO is useful only if comboed with MB or Claw.

It is especially powerful with Claw. So, a good pick up for the brand new werewolf :).
The WA shouldn't like it anymore, though (4+ to get up ?).

But skavens and beastmen will love it.

It's going to be interesting this year hearing how teams develop with the new modified PO. For Orc and undead teams with Mummies it was a no-brainer in the past. And maybe that's the reason for the change, as it meant those teams didn't bother to do much with actually scoring and what not but instead focused on destroying the other team. (Which come to think of it still isn't all that different from now. )

And I DID have a Goblin with PO on Da Maggot Scum back in the TBBF, just for the horrified look from the opponent when he leapt on the target. Shame he died the way he always thought he would, horribly. :smoking:

New version of the LRB ... ie 3.0 will be published to bloodbowl.com hopefully by the end of the month (don't hold me to this as I have zero control over Andy).
