Stand Firm

Post by joker »

Stand Firm (TRAIT) - A player with this skill is never pushed back as the result of a block. He may completely ignore PUSH BACK results from the block dice, and a KNOCK DOWN result always knocks the player over in the square he started in. In addition, the player does not fall over if he fails a dodge roll, instead he remains upright in the square that he was dodging from and a turnover does not take place. A player with Stand Firm will still loose the ball from a PUSH BACK result from an opponent with Strip Ball.
and a KNOCK DOWN result always knocks the player over in the square he started in.

that's not very clear for me, i cant be push if i decide to not use the skill ?

ps : sorry if anyone answer this question, but didnt found it with search engine

If u choose not to use the skill, u can be pushed. Note also that current belief is that u can be pushed as a secondary pushback, whether u want to or not.

Since secondary pushback has to be determined "as if player was pushback by a block", I would say that a stand firm player cannot be pushed by either a primary or secondary pushback, unless the coach agrees.

I have a second thought in mind : since stand firm is a trait, it is not a skill and then, permanently available (where a skill might be used only once per turn). So maybe, you haven't the choice to be pushed or not - thinking of Frenzy, where you haven't the choice.

Frenzy specifically states that you have to use it.

I can't find anywhere in the LRB where it states a secondary pushback has to be determined as if the player was pushed by a block.

Rather it simply states that: "...the player is pushed into an occupied square, and the player that originally occupied the square is pushed back."

And in the stand firm skill it states: "A player with this skill is never pushed back as a result of a block."

Since the push back occurs as the result of another pushback and not a block, the stand firm trait cannot be used.

If it where the other way around, you could actually end up with a situation, where you would not be able to push the player blocked back as all spaces are occupied with stand firm players.

I agree with you Cani, but the problem is when you have a player with the Side Step skill, you can choose your square on a secondary pushback. So why not with Stand Firm ?
However it's true that it would have been nice that the BBRC precised this point in the Rules Review :-?

Stand firm says as a part of a block and sidestep doesn't. Hence the arguable difference. Also, Standfirm should be optional. Being a trait means you can use it as many times as you wish in a turn, not that you must use it when applicable.
