Secret weapon questions

I tried using the search engine but didn't find anything satisfactory so...

1) Can you blitz using a guy with the chainsaw, or can it only be a block?

2) pg 29 LRB 2 - If the dice roll is less than the weapon’s Penalty roll then the referee does not take any action this time, and the player may carry on playing in the match (although another Penalty roll will have to be made if the player is used again).

Does this mean that a penalty roll will have to be made to use the player again in the next drive, or if the player is used again then a penalty roll will be made after a TD/half end.

I suspect the latter.

3) Can a player hold a lighted bomb and NOT throw it? If so, is it possible to (for example) hand off a bomb to another player who then runs and throws it? The reason I ask is because of these statements (pg 30 LRB):

"A coach may choose to have a Bombardier throw a bomb instead of taking any other action."

"If a player holding a lit bomb falls over for any reason then the bomb will scatter one square and then explode as described below."

Now since the bombardier can't move in the turn in which he lights the fuse, I cannot see any reason how he can fall down while holding a lit bomb, unless a bomb can be lit from one turn to another. Because of this, presumably in the turn after he lights the fuse he can move/throw/block/blitz etc., hence the second statement.

So in theory it should be possible to light a bomb one turn then either a) throw it, or b) hold it while lit then on the following turn(s) throw it, hand it off to someone who can then throw it etc.

4) Clarifying the bomb throwing process.

A bomb lands in a players square - if they catch it they must throw it again, and it will explode in the throwers square on a 1 - 3. If they DON'T choose to catch it it will scatter once and explode, regardless of what is in the square it scatters to.

My two cents

1) yes you can (?). The LRB mentions "you may block" but I have the strong feeling that they mean the Block-sequence (incl. blitz). Furthermore it doesn't mentions to forbid the player any normal action (ball handling?)

2) you set-up the SWplayer, play with him and at the end of that drive roll if he ref does any action against him. Repeat this in the next drives. So, you play first and roll afterwards. I guess that ensures you at least one drive with the SW.

3) I'm irritated (don't know)

Indigo, I copied your text and added my thoughts in red!

I tried using the search engine but didn't find anything satisfactory so...

1) Can you blitz using a guy with the chainsaw, or can it only be a block?
Don't see any reason why you couldn't It's only the block that is worked out differently.

2) pg 29 LRB 2 - If the dice roll is less than the weapon’s Penalty roll then the referee does not take any action this time, and the player may carry on playing in the match (although another Penalty roll will have to be made if the player is used again).

I suspect the latter. Yep LRB page 29 A player with a SW is not sent off by the ref while the match is in progress (unless caught by fouling)

Now since the bombardier can't move in the turn in which he lights the fuse, I cannot see any reason how he can fall down while holding a lit bomb, unless a bomb can be lit from one turn to another. IMO you can't. You have to choose to either lite and throw the bomb, or make a different action. Just imagine how long the fuse would have to be if you want to keep the bomb in your hands during the turn of your opponent!

4) Clarifying the bomb throwing process.

A bomb lands in a players square - if they catch it they must throw it again, and it will explode in the throwers square on a 1 - 3. If they DON'T choose to catch it it will scatter once and explode, regardless of what is in the square it scatters to. As this is a statement I can only second that this is correct.

The experience I have is from the Gobboleague on REBBL. Hope this helped! :smoking:

For 3, I'd rule he could, but there would have to be a successful catch roll (otherwise drop, scatter, boom) or there would be a 50% chance of the bomb exploding in the hand of the bomb carrier.

But he's allready holding the bomb, so why make it a catch roll. It would be a targetted action if you want to make a rule for this. but as far as I read the lines concerning it doesn't mention you can hold a lit bomb in your hands without throwing it away instantly! :smoking:

I think Thad's was responding to Indi's statement about handing off the bomb to another player to throw.

I see no reason that he could not hand off the bomb to say, the ag 5 thrower standing next ot him....but i would rule that it is now a hot potatoe...the recipient must immediately throw the bomb, and it will explode on a 1-3 just as if he had caught it after the bomber threw it...a risky play, and one only used in desperation or for fun...so not really a big issue evein if you can.

Ahhh  .
I can see a hand off counting as a kind of pass action, so that could be allowed. Just that the catcher has to make a catch roll and a roll to see if the bomb explodes. Then he has to throw the bomb away. That's a big risk! :smoking:
