Orc starting team, and what I've learned so far.

Post by Grimfang Cragtooth »

All right. I've read the various topics on orc teams so far, and here's what I have for my starting orc lineup.

3 Blitzers
3 BOBs
1 Thrower
3 Linemen
1 Gobbo w/ Ball and chain

Now, in my league, we're using the optional rules to buy secret weapons for your team. I had played one preseason game against dwarves with one fewer BOB and Blitzer, some more linemen, and a gobbo with a chainsaw.
The chainsaw was a waste of money... he failed to do much of anything.
The ball and chain, however, was incredible... he seemed to know exactly where I wanted him to go (Lucky dice rolls!) and caused much carnage.
Still, those cursed stunties were tough, and had a distressing tendency to knock my players out of the game. In the end, I ended the game with only 5 players on the field, and a 3-0 loss. Dwarves can, contrary to popular belief, play the passing game quite well, it would seem... and somehow, they're just as fast as orcs...

Anyway, that's what I have. So far, I know there's going to be the dwarves and a vampire team, but I don't know about anybody else... the league's just starting, so who knows.

Ideas? Advice?

I wouldn't take the ball and chain yet, and I'd take the full complement of 4 blitzers. You really want a full 11 players, and the chances of that fanatic lasting all of one drive before going to the great mudpit in the sky are too damned high for a starting team. The extra Block and speed to start will really help against the dwarfs, and will make the rookie vamps think twice even about two dice blocks.

You can also consider a plain Goblin... he can save the day sometimes, and, as a catcher, isn't so bad...

Points all well made and taken. My biggest trouble with taking a fourth blitzer is the lack of models! I have the team that came out of the main box, plus one extra BOB and blitzer, and my warhammer fantasy models, most of which are unsuitable. I'm also currently unemployed, with no cash for such frivolities as Blood Bowl models.

Yes, the ball and chain is a gamble, but that's what playing orcs and goblins is all about, right? The hope is that he can take out enough of the other guy's players to pay for himself on that first drive or two before he kicks off. Besides, he's just fun, and it's great to see that look on your opponent's face when you place a Goblin Fanatic model down on the board!

Start with 4 black orcs and 2 blitzers, 1 thrower 3/4 liners or a gobbo and 3 rr , rest in ff.
the main reason for this is the Black orcs develop slowly so having them from the start gives them the chance of mvps, add the other two blitzers quickly and with their ag3 they should be able to get spps rapidly through scoring td's.
This is a line up i have used, and found very succesful
