Saurus are the true backbone of this team, skinks are the replaceable part.
Good point. Maybe I'll play Lizards one of these days.

I started mine with 6 saurii, 5 skink, 3 rr, 4 FF
I want 4-1-1 so far my loss being vs Dark elfes, by turn 3 two saurii were badly hurt and a skink dead! Tahnks to a riot I only lost 0-2 (2-6 in cas  )

I play with Krox, 6 saurii and 4 skinks on the pitch, protecting them.
Don't send them in the opponent endzone, play a cage style game, delay your td as much as you can, I often win 2-1 playing this way.

Yo Anc, I've played with this format and had no major problems. I do think your line up is very good though. And I also know that you are far more of an experienced LM coach than I am.

I don't know about the best defensive line-up, but here's some suggestions that have worked for me.

I am assuming that you are using a rookie line-up. I would go for 6 Sauri and 5 skinks. This allows for the sauri to be placed in the middle zone, three on the line of scrimmage (2 space division against fast teams, 1 space division against strong teams or dwarfs). The remaining three Sauri are places three steps back (fast teams) or two steps back (strong teams). This back line is always placed with two space division.

Two skinks are placed in each endzone, the first with two spaces to the LoS and the second two steps directly behind. Both are placed with one step to the sideline. If the opponent have access to Frenzy (e.g. Dwarves) the first skink must be placed an additional step from the sideline.

The fifth skink is placed behind the Saurus placed in the middle of your ground.

Go for Sidestep on your skinks to allow them to operate freely on the sidelines in defense. Get a Kroxigor as quickly as possible to strengthen the defensive line-up. Get Diving Tackle on the first skink to reach second skill to deal with the fast team's scorer, breaking your line.

This general tactic has worked well for me in the team rating interval 100-175 (my team and opposing team). If anyone has any suggestions on how to advance the defense to higher team rating matches, I would be most grateful.

I use this line-up

6 Sauri
6 skinks
2 RR
4 FF

I choose to max ST in the team, without investing in the very expensive-and-turnover-maker Kroxigor.

As a defense, I used the following one :

Code: Select all

....|S.S.S..|....
....|......S|....
.S..|kk....k|..S.
.k..|.......|..k.
Asymetrical but putting all the Sauri in front and protecting the skinks.
It has a default : your sauri can be stuck up by opponents very fast. But, as they are quite spread on the field, your opponent will use a lot of its players to do so, and that will prevent him from building a solid attack and protecting the ball.
Never forget that 3 skinks dodge, move fast, and can blitz the ball carrier at any opportunity.

By the way, when you'll have money enough to buy the kroxi, the defense will be even better :

Code: Select all

....|.S.K.S.|....
....|S.....S|....
.S..|k.....k|..S.
.k..|.......|..k.

I think that kind of defense is better used against weak-fast teams, but what happens if you play against hard teams? they will krush your front line ad slowly kill your players one by one.
Using the same tactic against all players is not good
Agaisny hard teams I usually put 4 sauri on scrim (if I have krox I put it too), one saurus on each side and four skinks behind at almost 6 squares from scrim.

If you love something, let it go. If it doesn’t come back to you, hunt it down and kill it.

Code: Select all

.S.S.S.K.S.S.S.
S:Saurus, K: Kroxigor
I like this front line while defending against agility teams, while keeping a few skinks back.
This always works fine for me.

This does not work against a team with frenzy players, because that can easily push a saurus in the public.
