Doubles on an Amazon catcher

Post by Sproutman »

First skill, doubles. Its pretty much a rookie team with only two other skills so far - Strong Arm on the Thrower and NoS on the Catcher (yes, I know, I've rolled three doubles out of three.) Anyway, as I already have NoS do you have recommendations for something with a little bit more variety?

So far I'm thinking maybe Jump Up, maybe Pro, maybe Dump Off, maybe Frenzy, or possibly even Dauntless. My game is very pass based, but I don't want to just take NoS as I probably won't be using this person much as a receiver anyway now the other guy has it.

Anyway, any comments at all?

Two guys with NoS is far better than one. One can allways be blitzed down (especially without block yet) but two with two you must mark the other well (with couple guys who aren't then charging against your ball carrier) and blitz the other down.

Dauntless will make her something else than catcher :) and so does frenzy. Jump-up would help with her average ma. I'd still give her NoS.

I like to use amazon catchers more like TE's. As such NOS is SPECTACULAR for them. Take it again. Once you get block and sidestep on these guys they will be unstoppable.

If you want a scoring team, give her jump up.

yeah that is another good option
I prefer NOS as I find dodge and eventually block keeps you on your feet most of the time but both are good options

My only concern is that whilst I have a pretty good throwing game going on using the combo of Pass, Catch, NoS, and Strong Arm, I don't have much else on the team. As such its sometimes difficult to get people out of the way in order to get anywhere. Also defence is sometimes a bit lacking. Thats kind of why I was thinking Frenzy really - it allows me to get people out of the game a bit more often, something I desperately need. However without Block that could be a risky tactic.

Yeah it could be. Your blitzers should be able to help you blow holes in the opponents wings. By placing them on the line you get them to tangled up in the scrum. I usually put a blitzer and catcher on each wing for offense. On Defense I move the catchers back as safties and try to put a pair of blitzers on one or both wings to rush the back field. Put Line women where they belong.... on the line. Should get you some more movement and keep you from getting too tied up in the scrum. My 2 cents

Without block frenzy is really a risky tactic. You'll fail 1/9 of your 2d blocks without block. And getting two 2d blocks might be not too easy sometimes.

Dauntless will only help you against opponents stronger than you. If there's many of them in your league it is a good choice but then you won't get do so much catching as she's busy killing the ogre. If your teams lifespan isn't going to be very long, dauntless could be good.

I'd take the NoS but tried to develop your linos next. Once they got block and your blitzer guard/strip ball/tackle they'll be a tough team to beat - but so are your oppos at that point ;) It's just two NoS catchers are a devil in the backfield. That opportunitu you won't get many times.

To hold the line and defend your thrower you need linowomen skills too. Couple Blodgers will do well. How many guys do you usually send to backfield? I recommend keeping some 7-8 women holding the ball in a some kind of cage if you have not yet (and throwers next to each other make a hand-off -> pass without dodging in case of tackled thrower).

To get linos skills send one to backfield and throw the ball for her - it might cost a reroll so be careful. This way them can too get tds and skills.

And I'm a newbie so this might not be the very best tactic :) but I'm for NoS still ;)

Maybe you could consider guard, an assist can sometimes make a huge difference in clearing the way and getting to the end zone. I agree that two catchers with NoS would be quite a threat, but I would personally diversify. Jump Up is also a good trait, even if some people think it's not useful for blodgers. Believe me, they're still going to get knocked down whatever skill they've got ! ;)

I don't like jump up that much with AV7. Most of the time my players are stunned or out.

If it can't kill you, it's not a sport, it's a game.

I'd go Nerves of Steel.

From my experience, Jump Up is only useful on mobile Blitzers, Dauntless would be much better on a blitzer-type player too, or on a Linewoman (which would prefer Guard though).
