New Woodies with a twist

Post by Drool_bucket »

Hey all,

Well, my LGS' Bloodbowl season will be starting up shortly, and as the defending champion, I have some issues to hammer out.

one, how to win it all again...

two, I can utilize a trophy re-roll, but only if I play the same race again, which is fine, a second season of woodies won't kill me...

three, the question I pose to you guys, how should I adjust my starting roster, know that I have an extra reroll?

four thoughts:
1.) take the extra re-roll and use the standard 100 TR roster, 10 LE, 1 WD, 8 FF and 2 RR
2.) turn the extra re-roll into two positional players (thrower and catcher) and one extra point of FF.
3.) upgrade a LE to a WD
4.) snag the apothecary

option 1 is the most boring, by far. But an extra re-roll early would certainly be nice
option 2 presents the problem that those two postional guys will hog all the SPPs, but makes me ridiculously competitive in the first few weeks of the league. (8 week plus playoffs re-setting league, btw)
option 3 I like the most. 2 WD from the get go will be really nice. Score four TDs, 2 with each, the first game and its off to the races with them...
option 4 is the safest, but has little, no effect on my W/L column.

What do you guys think?

I'd take option 2, but with two catchers. I use catchers as super mobile assists as much as TD scorers. As well as runners to carry the ball forward to a line-elf waiting for the handoff. So I wouldn't be too worried about them being SPP hogs. Throwers always hog completions though, which are vital for your line-elves to have 1 SPP in case they get the MVP.

The other thing - your opponents will expect you to take the two WD option, and it's always good to do the unexpected.

I agree with the last post. Take two catchers and the extra FF.

The two catchers suggestions seems good to me. The only other alternative would be 3RR.

Anyway: now that he posted this here, it won't be unexpected any more. :)

I would go for the apo.
Though every team with AV7 dies immediatelly under my hands. Well.. every except skaven. So I´m not the experienced coach with woodies.

2 catcher sound tempting, especially as they come with dodge, thus saving rerolls.
BUT:
They are only ST2, so you decrease your on pitch-strenght, thus forcing you to make additional dodges.

As already said, I would go with the apo. And he WILL affect your W/L ratio, because it take an additional cas, to reduce your player-number, so it will take much longer to bring you below 7 elves, which you often need, to put up an effective defense against those buggers. ;)

I didn't think the 2 catchers route... (obviously  ) and I really like that idea. Really, really. If all goes well, after game one, I could have 3 blodgers and my apothecary.

Thanks for the input!

Isn't the trophy RR once per game? In which case just stick to the normal lineup.

Good point.

Personally, I'd stick to the existing roster in that case.

In case it is an extra reroll, I think I would still rely on the 'boring' option of 3 rerolls, since that makes you save a lot of money, and helps probably the most team improvement in my opinion, more than by getting extra positional players, since all your players can use that extra reroll.
My second choice would be a second wardancer - your opponent won't be able to just neutralize your team for your first 4-5 games of the season by knocking off your WD, since you'll have two of them!...
