Quick update
Hi all,
Here's my quick update. The league is almost finished, I have played 10 matches, lost the first 2 and them managed to get an unbeaten streak of 8, finishing second behind the dwarf team. I now have the following team:
- 7 linemen, 1 with +AG and Dodge, 2 with Block and 1 with Leader
- 4 catchers, 2 rookies and 2 with Block, Dodge, Catch, Side step
- 1 thrower with Pass, Strong arm, Accurate and Sure hands
- 2 Wardancers, 1 with Block, Dodge, Leap, Tackle and Side step, another with Block, Dodge, Leap, Strip ball, Side step and Nerves of Steel
We will be playing a Cup soon (Dungeon Bowl) and I am really enjoying playing with the woodies. Any comments?

I usually start with 9 lino's, 2 catchers. 2 re-rolls, FF 9.wesleytj wrote:best long term we roster:

Defensively a bit weak until there's money for a WD, but more reliable on offense. Anyway, both the catchers should have block after the first or second game.
I never hire an apo for a tournament; if the players who are worth it go down (i.e. the Wardancers), the opponent usually makes sure they stay down.

NoS
Great question. Well, I thought about it long time and even played 2 practice matches with Jump up. In one it was useful, in the other one not. After analysing both games, I acknowledged that NoS would be a great choice. Let me explain.Orin wrote:Why Nerves of Steel on a Wardancer? Probably because you use him to catch passes, but I think I would have stuck more to the traditonal jobs of the positionals. NoS for Catchers, Frenzy or Jump Up for WDs
I play a rather aggressive game, trying to get the ball from my opponent straight away. A hole is a hole and I do my best to squeeze in, usually with succes. With the ball in a place for grabs (possibly after scatter) I almost always get a change to get in into safe hands in my turn. With the possibility to throw the ball easily, or in other circumstances catch the ball in a threatening and 'surrounding' situation, it really helps. Furthermore, skills like frenzy and dauntless are not really suitable for my style of play.

I'm not saying it's a bad choice; it just wouldn't be my first. I'd have gone forFrenzy to make the holes bigger, and since you can't Blitz and Pass with the same player in a turn, NoS on a Catcher to retrieve the ball and lobn it back to a safe position. But it's true you have to play a specific style to make Frenzy work for you. (I just love pushing players into the crowd) Play the wrong style and it will work against you.

I completely agree with your approach, but I normally only use the WD for blitzing a hole for him and 2 catchers to squeeze through. A pushback often is enough, and I can get that result quite easily. If I have frenzy, I have to follow up meaning I am close tothe opposition, while I rather want to be as far away from him as possible.Orin wrote:I'm not saying it's a bad choice; it just wouldn't be my first. hm why take NoS on a WD?.
In a long term league as ours a leaping, sidestepping NoS WD can make the diffrence between victory and loss. But thats my personal experience. Lol the WD had tackle, strip ball too. So it was an all around player. blitz, pass, catch he could do all. I was missing MB sometimes.
