Need to Build an Offense for Dwarves!

Post by lutherblue »

Hello,

I currently have two LB with guard, and i just got my runner to have a skill. I would really like to develope a passing game with my dwarves, as slugging it out on the ground is just way too one dimensional. If i could develope a passer i thought maybe i could be a double threat.

So, I was thinking if i ever get a double on a blitzer or my other runner of giving them catch. I would appreciate some feedback.

I know conventional wisdom is all about giving my runner block, then dodge on a double. But i would think if i could build a decent passing game my skills would build just as quickly. The thing i really love about building dwarves up as a passing team is that if you build a decent reciever he is actually kinda sturdy.

If anyone had a suggestion on how to do this i would appreciate it.

Cheers,
Bert

Actually a dwarf runner is rather average... Sure hands and thick skull with av8... nothing special. If anything you want the doubles to be pass if you want to go the throwing route. Whoever you want to pass to will be catching on on a 3+ unless you want to pass to a long beard. More likely you'll be passing on a 4+ with whover you have the pass skill on so more likely you'll need the rr on the thrower and not the catcher... That's the way I see it. I could be wrong.

I think the passing theme is just for fun. There is no doubt the dodge mentallity is much better. Block, dodge, sure hands with a bunch of gaurding dwarves to back you up is a pretty safe cage by any teams standards.

Still you play for fun so do just that, have fun and develop that passing dwarf team.

Maybe you should try another team then, because dwarves are made for slugging it out on the ground.

Not sure if I'm mis-reading that or what, but Dwarf Runners get passing skills on a normal roll, no need for doubles :-? . Or at least what LRB 4.0 keeps telling me 8) .

Developing the team

Post by lutherblue »

I concur that giving one of the guys pass is what i want to do. I was thinking about giving up my current skill which should supposedly be block to give my runner pass. I haven't rolled a double yet, so i don't have the luxury of taking catch.

However, to answer the inquiry about changing teams, i can still slug it out with the best of them. However, it would be really nice to have a team that is multi dimensional. I would like to have the enemy fear the pass when i have someone down field, go cover him, and at least give me a bit more room to run. As of right now, it is kind of like watching eight year olds play soccer. As soon as one of my guys have the ball, i cover him with a bunch of people, and then he swarms me. Sure i can bash my way out of it, but it would be nice if i could at least threaten a downfield passing assault kind of like the inverse of the west coast passing offence, where they are 90%pass, but can threaten the run with a good back.

Cheers,
Bert

Or give your blitzer dodge on a double instead of catch. He can actually dodge out of TZs to receive the ball reducing the chance of a failed catch and he'll be even harder to knock over. You could give him catch, but you first have to set him up to receive. You could still use a team re-roll to catch the ball.

Dwarves are a lot of fun if played offensively. You won't win as many games as with solid time management and defensive play, at least it will be more difficult. But it's still fun.
